December 19, 20196 yr Well, before the (bleep) Argentinean government imposes me a 30% tax on addons (I'll leave the rant for another thread, but the congress is discussing this tonight), I'm thinking about purchasing either the iFly 747-400 (plus the 8i) or the QW 787 (despite not liking the $10 increase). - iFly 747-400: I know it already because I have it for FS9. I had it also for FSX in my previous laptop, but had to return it because of bad FPS. Now that I have a better laptop, I can give it another chance. - QW 787: All I've read about this are some favorable reviews, but I'm still undecided. Which one do you recommend? Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. December 19, 20196 yr Hi Luis, Visited you great Country earlier this year, very enjoyable. I regularly use the iFly 747 and Qw787 in prepar3d v4.5 PC desktop and have no issues with FPS or stuttering (i7-4790K GTX 1060), not sure about a laptop - both aircraft a joy to fly. I think it is a matter of your preferred choice. I am finding it hard to find real world routes for the B747 to fly, with their gradual retirement from airlines, the 747-8i even harder but there is always the Cargo routes which the iFly 747 BCF fills beautifully. If I had to decide I think I would choose the Qw787, with the recent release of the -10 it offers a good selection in airlines, routes, available liveries and is an excellent product. Steve YBCG
December 20, 20196 yr I say go with the 787. It gives you more real world routes than the 747. Both are solid choices though Orman
December 20, 20196 yr I believe the Ifly 747 has better overall coding. The QW 787 is flashy but not as good a rendition of the real aircraft as the Ifly. All my opinion, of course.
December 20, 20196 yr The iFly easily. A really nice add on and very good value for money. And there isn’t a need to fly real world routes. There are plenty of sites around that have all those classic retro routes.
December 21, 20196 yr Author Thank you very much for your responses. I normally fly real-world airlines, but not real-world routes. I mean, sometimes in FS9 I flew the iFly 747 for an 1-hour route that is usually done in an E190. Anyway, this morning (when the poll was so tied) I purchased both, and I spent the whole evening trying both, knowing that I could return any of them if I (or my laptop) didn't like them (thanks, Flight1 and your refund policy!). In the end, I've just requested refund of the 787. I loved it's FBW and handflying, but VC was too heavy for my computer. I'm staying with the 747. December 21, 20196 yr Very true the QW787 has a strong impact on the fps due to its screen cabin, it is not optimized for fsx or p3d, for that reason I voted 747. regards
December 21, 20196 yr Although the QW 787 is excellent, it has a very heavy VAS footprint. To use it in FSX effectively therefore without running the risk of an OOM error, you have to compromise on your display settings by moving the various sliders to the left and it also helps to minimise the amount of scenery you load up. When you do all this however, it is a very enjoyable and immersive airliner to fly in FSX. I don’t have the iFly 747, so I can not compare the VAS footprint of the two, but I do have the iFly 737 and this excellent aircraft with its fairly moderate VAS usage runs well in FSX. Bill
