Milviz King Air is RELEASED

Recommended Posts

Slayer -- I can start the Super King Air with from the virtual cockpit, just not the saitek switch panel.

I also have a couple of saitek farm sim heavy equipment side panels that I use for extra buttons and so forth so if the airplane can interface with spad next I should be able to map physical buttons to what's on the instrument panel.

We're working on a new interfacing panel that should allow for all of this.  As we don't have these types of equipment ourselves... we cannot make recommendations about setup or about compatibility... We will work with you to fix any issues...

So after 5 years, no documentation as to how it can be started is given, rather a video with incorrect terms is released after the add-on is available?

Following the checklists on the MFD will allow one to easily discover the correct method for starting the engines.

For what it's worth, Flight Safety International offers an on-line course for the KA 350 series for $850.00... :ho:

What 'incorrect terms' were used in the videos?

If we could focus on the topic again and not someone begging for attention...

I would like some info on the current version pls.

Forgive me if I am getting this wrong. You have given it a HF and this HF  is now part of the new full installer?

I don't mind it having bugs as even the true best simulation of an aircraft within P3D the FSL A319/320/321 still has bugs even after around 9 years. So if i waited for a bug free aircraft I would be still waiting...😭

I would like to read the forums but am I right in thinking there for registered owners?

Would it be possible to know what "bugs" are still in there and how not to incur them, simply because if I know theirs a bug I don't want to trigger it, nothing more.

I have always loved the king air and are truly interested in buying it.

Would it be possible just to have a current status.

Also how many livery's does it come with. Just seeking more info really.

Thank you and thank you for making this one as good as we can get. We simmer need developer to go the extra miles to give us something special.

This post is like a shotgun blast of questions... it has 4 liveries. It's not worth $80 right now, but maybe when the SP comes out. Just calm down and wait.

What on earth are you on about! Am interested in buying it and just asking a few question out of pure interest I have no need to calm down at all.

Its nice , some bugs they work on

its worth the 80usd the best king air and its gone be better , the diff to other King Air is huge more like FSL to Abacus A 3xx fleet

5 years in development and when released it’s littered with problems?

I do get where you are coming from ... but true source of "bugs" is consumer pressure resulting is often too rapid "out the door" development process.  Majority of consumers seem to "accept" this process with the understanding there are going to be bugs/issues ... but as long as they (consumer) gets it sooner WITH bugs rather than later will "LESS" bugs.  This consumer acceptance, trickles back to the software companies (all of them) ... end result, faster, faster, faster.

Microsoft Vista took over 5 years to develop with 2000+ development resources and 50+ Million lines of code and when released had over 1450+ known/verified bugs.  Crysis game took 1000 person development team and another multi-year project (3-4 years as I recall).

I've been coding since 1981 and watched how software engineering changed over the years.  How it went from small development teams or even single developers to huge development teams.  Look at the list of developers/modelers/editors on any current ambitious Flight Sim project from aircraft to airports, long gone are the days of single developer software creation for any product that is going to even remotely attempt at a high level of quality.

Development tools have gotten better, languages have gotten better (although why we engineers persist with C++ and/or C# is more out of familiarity than common sense as the days of coarse syntax from 70's and 80' are no longer needed, parser, intellisense, code generators, hardware, memory have progressed yet the language syntax remains fairly archaic with minor changes).  As the years progress, my development time spent on any project went from 90% design/code and 10% R&D to 30% design/code and 70% R&D ... what I mean by R&D is figuring out implementations and how to correctly use them, or why something doesn't work as advertised, or errors in development tools (Visual Studio) sending me on a wild goose chase, errors in 3rd party UI tools that are supposed to speed up the process and make it look better, searching for the esoteric error message ... like this one I got just a couple of days ago in VS 2019 when working with a UWP project ... no code changes, just ran the project in VS 2019:

uc?id=1OrqbXfrtXyZ64MoEyShARNz0N2ADjf_p

Helpful huh?  Clicking on "Help" button takes me to this URL.

Greeted with:

uc?id=1fpxmtwa6bb5NwkpOQuge-EDSbAHTcFGa

Lovely, I feel another hour of my life gone ... I eventually figured out the solution after more research and my own trial and error.

This is just one of many "daily" occurrences of the complexity of doing something that should be simple ... this isn't even the hard stuff, just another "huh" moment?  Somewhere along the line software engineering seems to have lost it's focus.  It's not just a one sided affair, Microsoft has manipulated us (providing technology and killing technology that is best for Microsoft and not necessarily best for developers) just as much as the consumer demands have been a part of it.  I'm not attempting to issue blame, just provide perspective of how we got to this state ... it's a shared responsibility and I'm not even touching on theft protection as that's another entire distraction from the objective that just adds costs to the honest consumer ... just a sad reality.

Happy New Year!

Cheers, Rob.

Rob, I understand where you are coming from.  My background is in astrophysics and aerospace engineering and I work for a major defense contractor on guess what -- flight dynamics, propulsion, astrodynamics, and flight simulation.

The problem really is that there's not a single interface standard to allow all of these different flight sim programs to interact with physical instruments.   Spad Next is the closest thing to that for instruments and controls made by Saitek -- which is out of business and Logitech isn't really picking up where they left off.  They aren't that well made and are overpriced (went through two sets of broken Saitek Cessna yokes and rudder pedals) but that's about all that's available that's worth it for the under $500 range.  Honeycomb is supposed to work with Spad Next as well from what I understand.  The next level up for simulated Garmin cockpit instrument displays and panels and so forth is in the three to five thousand dollar range with software included and they use they their own interfaces -- and they don't work with everything.

I've tried to tell several people at the industry level that so-called "personal flight training"  is leaving the gaming world behind and is approaching (and in some cases surpassing) the level of sophistication of expensive million dollar military and commercial flight simulators.  This is a new industry really and it will take time to fully develop.

If any of the developers need help with their math, just let me know 🙂

I never said its littered with problems. Not sure where you get that from.

Out of curiosity, how does its performance numbers match the real work POH? I love KA's, but like someone mentioned, I DO like products that are 'perfectly realistic without any problems'. i think that's an acceptable requirement for a 5 year long development add-on? Is it not>?

The drag curve is near perfect.  The best glide is 135 knots at 15000 lbs with a ratio of 14.1.  The book says 2.3 nm for every 1000 ft ( 14 to 1 ratio ).  So, we're off by 0.1

The stall speeds clean and with flaps are within 1 knot, as is the Vmca.  The rudder boost function works

The normal/max cruise performance is also within a couple of knots, using 100% torque and 1500 rpm

The pitch stability was determined by analyzing the wing/tail combination, using CFD, so I believe that the trim speed vs weight and CG is also very accurate.

Yes, I did.  One of the things I always check with any of the aircraft sims I buy is to see if it can do a basic loop and go through the vertical without any problems.  That lets me know the programmer did their homework and knows how to use quaternions instead of just rotation matrices. There are also multidimensional higher order numerical techniques that help with accurate interpolation of multivariate aerodynamic and other performance data way beyond simple lookup tables.  That kind of thing.

A lot of flight simmers suffer from "Addonitis" - gimme gimme now! Release it already! Fix it later!

This often results in "regretitis" - Product is a piece of cr*p! I will never buy from this developer again!

It's usually best to wait six months to a year and let the developers iron out all the bugs.

I don't think the developers need help with math, what Milviz needs help with - and maybe you can assist - is in producing a user manual and a flight tutorial, since the addon doesn't come with either (other than the hastily put together downloadable pdf available on their website).
