October 11, 200619 yr Maybe this will help a little when tuning perf...http://blogs.technet.com/p-12c_pilot/archi...might-help.aspx
October 11, 200619 yr Many thanks p-12C for this information! I guess there's no tuning option to set the radius in which autogen will appear? Like myself, flying from airport to airport i would just need it dense when on the ground. Like on TNCM i like to have all the autogen trees and buildings in and just around the airport. The trees on the hills nearby which cut frames i could miss. Maybe for FS-Next one could specify a radius from the airport center in which autogen will appear? Just my thoughts about it :) Regards, Gerrit Gerrit
October 11, 200619 yr OK P-12C, what other little "tidbits" are ya'll hiding!:-lol Just tried your mod with the following settingsTERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=2000TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1500I replaced the original autogen files (as I said in another post, the first thing I did was make a COMPLETE back-up of the original FSX install because I knew I would be doing some serious experimenting)Autogen at "Very Dense" Getting 24-28 FPS on the ground at KATL and 35-46 in the air.Absolutely the single most effective tweak yet and the autogen is still incredible!Do you have any secrets for AI traffic? That's my biggest single FPS killer now.
October 11, 200619 yr >Do you have any secrets for AI traffic? That's my biggest>single FPS killer now. You're not going to like my secret... I turn it off (the cars). I'd really like to turn it on, but my system can't handle the load. I'll run a few aircraft and the active airport objects, a bunch of ships and a some small boats, but not the cars.
October 11, 200619 yr Your right, I don't like it.;-) Yea, I've got the cars off alredy and can only fly with about 10% aircraft without bogging things down. I've tried porting over various AI packages but the results for me have been less than desirable.Oh well, I'm sure someone will figure out a way to use AI aircraft sooner or later. But again, thanks for the tip on autogen. Really made a major difference.
October 11, 200619 yr >Maybe this will help a little when tuning perf...>>http://blogs.technet.com/p-12c_pilot/archi...might-help.aspx>>Posted this question in another thread before I saw yours :-)If I set the two lines to zero how does it differ or work better than the below line which is in mycfg because I set the slider all the way left?AUTOGEN_DENSITY=0ThanksBill
October 11, 200619 yr I'm running demo 2 and cannot find FSX.cfg... Is there any way to do this tweak with demo 2?
October 11, 200619 yr Hi Redvan:C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataMicrosoftFSX Demo is where FSX.cfg is normally located. If you have more than one user on your machine and use group policies in a non-standard manner it may possibly appear lower in your C:Documents and Settings folder chain in C:Documents and SettingsUSERNAME HEREApplication DataMicrosoftFSX Demo.Good Luck, and Happy Flying (...beware of the allure of tinkering under the hood more than flying like I do)! :-)GaryGB
October 11, 200619 yr This certainly seems to work, at least in the demo. I can now fly over the dreaded Julianna forest locked at 15fps. One hitch cropped up now that I can fly over it with autogen: flying over the first hill and looking to the left drops me to .3 fps and destroys my system, I'm not sure why yet. I can look at the dense forest without problem and all the cars on the road etc..., smooth, locked at 15, but once I fly into the first valley and look left it all goes to hades. Looking away (which takes forever as the system is clogged) it pops back up. Something there is dragging me down. I'll have to investigate further by lowering settings and see if I can find what is causing it.Otherwise, this fix seems to really help. Also, just to stress, this is Demo 2 findings not Retail. Ian. October 11, 200619 yr Try looking on your desktop for MyDocuments, in there should be a folder call Flightsimulator X demo files. That's where I found mine.Ian.
