Can't update REX Environment Force

I heard horror stories of it still changing things when it wasn't being used and even after a full reinstall of P3D. Is there a process I can follow to conclude that it isn't still having an effect on my P3D before I uninstall it?

If you make sure that it is not running and then delete the P3D shaders, you can be sure that it is not having any effect at all.

"Horror stories" are often just that, stories, often based on the uninformed assumption that the last thing that happened is the cause of a problem.

I turned of all cloud morphing deleted sharers, installed a new set of clouds from SF.

Started EF then ASP4 and P3D. You only have to load one scene to see the problems.

Here you can see copy and paste clouds

Here are the flat clouds. One huge one.

REX is, after killing their support forums, the last company i will buy a product from in the future...today i deinstalled REF and i immidiatly got rid of the 5 second stutters..

This paired with their arrogant behaviour it is a showstopper for me, as Orbx is...

Shame. Go cry in the corner. While the rest of us enjoy their wonderful offerings.

Anybody having problems with fog not rendering in automode? Using AS4 as weather engine with a fresh installation of EF does not show any fog.

Edit: Did some more tests and it seems that fog is only working in the U.S., but not in other countries. Can anybody confirm this? The issues is not new but could in the past be solved with "Enable weather smoothing" activated. But activating it does not work any longer for me wit TU 2.2.

One year ago I posted the similar findings over at REX (https://www.realenvironmentxtreme.com/forums/index.php?/topic/50953-reduced-visibility-no-fog-and-haze-outside-of-the-us/&tab=comments#comment-317073) and EF is still giving me issues.

I have not noticed this before.

So I have just set up a flight from Inverness to Edinburgh, using AS historical mode (having looked up any date fog was a problem).

EF on in auto mode (no manual adjustments).

P3D weather set to AS handling it.

As I look now, I am sitting at the end of Runway 23 and I can see about 30/40 m in front of me due to THICK fog.

Is that any help to you?

It does! Thank you very much, Ian.
Was in EGNM with real weather a few hours a ago and had no fog. So it might be something on my end. I have posted on the REX Discord and wait what they have to say.

Christoph

I saw your pics in discord and I have a question, how do you get rid off those silhouettes under foggy conditions?

I use AS and have all items checked on EF Auto mode (except "Enable Automatic Texture Sync")

Thanks!

MSFS 2020 and 2024

Have EF reinstalled today and the fog was back. Switched to manual mode only to deactivate the mini-GUI and after reloading the sim the fog is again gone. Activating again the mini-GUI and changing between the modes triggers the fog. (Video at the bottom of this post or here on YouTube)

Right now I would say that the product is broken when working in combination with AS4. If you leave all settings to the default and do not change anything after installing it does work. But playing with one setting (in my case deactivating the ingame mini-GUI) is enough to break it.

Moreover, there is one setting I really struggle to get work and this it the reduction of a silhouette effect. Objects in the distance (mountains, trees, etc.) will shine through the fog while running EF in auto-mode. This can be reduced with a CloudFogTune Setting set at least to 1.0. ( @ttbq1 ) in manual mode.
But I do not know how to save this setting to be permanently active for auto-mode. Right now I think that the whole GUI  /ingame mini-GUI are not very intuitive. After months of playing with them I sill have not fully understand which setting is saved where and what is the preferred way to achieve something. There are multiple places to save and load presets and I think making a wrong selection during my try and error search has prevented the fog from showing up.

I would call myself a rather experienced sim user and modder. But EF is one add-on that continues to bring my to my limits. Positive to note is that the visuals are amazing and I can not notice any performance impact. Yet, I am at a point where I wonder if it is worth all the hassle.

@fs1 @rstough
Federico, Reed,
Please explain my in plain and simple words how I can permanently prevent the silhouette effect in auto-mode. I do not want to use the manual-mode and just want to have EF running in auto-mode, while AS4 is in charge for the weather.

Thanks,
Christoph

But why not just leave the mini ui "alive" and just minimize it each time? Takes half a second.

That's what I do.

I think that the "silhouette" effect is in fact the "Low altitude Volfog horizon distance adjustment" slider in Active Sky for P3D v4.
