EDDF has sloped runways ?

I didn’t know that. Never saw weird things with AI aircraft ..

But I use FSXT + RT.

Its because of the sloped taxiway between 07L/25R and the apron.

With the dll AI will not sink into the taxiway during crossing the bridge over the highway.

Thanks for clearing this up.

This tool should be licensed to third party scenery developers so that they can actually make runways sloped - and have AI use them.  I'm sure everyone would love that.  I'm very surprised that if this was at all possible, that it's taken 20 odd years to develop the workaround.    Flat runways have been the pain in the side of users and developers for years due to the AI issue.

Great work  Federico

Yes, for example LatinVFR will be using this tech in their KFFL release.

I didn't even know this utility existed.

So let me get this straight....

A utility has existed (for years already) to get AI to use sloped runways.  Yet we are told for years by airport developers  (and LM) that they can't do sloped runways because AI is unable to use them....

Ermm.  Has there not been a massive community disconnect here somewhere?   Why do parties not talk to each for the benefit of all?

Well, this was done as a LM workaround. It has been in beta for some months, not much.

PAKT will be the ultimate test for this.

Tested it at PAKT and it doesn't work. I think the AI traffic has to be designed with this utility in mind so they work Ok together, otherwise the AI aircraft will do crazy things. In my tests, looked at two landings, the first aircraft landed a bit short of the runway and disappeared, the second aircraft landed correctly, but disappeared at the end of the runway without starting to taxi.

The ORBX PAKT doesn't have any parking spots so AI that lands WILL just disapear. The problem is getting parking spots and taxilines to the runway that aren't elevated at the same height as the runway.

Thank you for this little tool, Federico! Brilliant for EDDF, EDDP, MMUN and soon KFLL.

Have you tested in EDDF or MMUN and please, which add on versions you refer to?.

Thanks, Ed

Can we make it happen? I have the airport and can try adding some parking spots and taxi routs to the hold short lines. Then create a couple of flight plans.

Or

Maybe another challenge for a creative team like inibuilds to take on. They can offer updated afcads for airports with sloped runways.

Or

Developers of airports with sloped runways can offer us an update.

Ricardo (LatinVFR) made it possible in KFLL for AI to taxi and depart the airport, so it can be done.

MSFS 2020, what an amazing sim!

Well it is tricky, some airports may have to be tweaked for them to work.

As you mentioned, some landings fell short as reference altitudes are not updated. We can't do much on those airport designs but for sure some of the airports that have this issue could be tweaked for them to work.

The original thread for the beta does cover most of the questions asked so far and gives some examples. For instance, ORBX PAKT will work, while ORBX KSUN will not. Page 2 and 3 are the ones that mostly cover design limitations of current add-on airports.

Sorry for the confusion, Ed. I should have been more precise. The DLL allows AI to use any solid platform that is modeled as a 3-D object. Such platforms can be sloped runways or taxiway bridges. The only airport with true sloped runways for AI will be KFLL by LatinVFR. The add-ons mentioned by me (MMUN by FSimstudio; EDDF by Aersoft, EDDP by DigitalDesgin) have no sloped runways but elevated taxiways. Those are now used by AI.

For PAKT, have you installed any add-on AFCAD or just used the default ORBX AFCAD? Default comes with no taxiways and no parking spots. Hence, AI will disappear after their roll-out.

Best,
Christoph

Hi Christoph, thanks for your answers. Saw your previous posts in the original AI thread and tested MMUN (from FSS as you said) in that taxiway bridge and the AI traffic works well, but have no means to say it's now better than before, just because before I was not paying attention to these very fine details.

Regarding PAKT I only have the default ORBX AFCAD. By the way, do you know where to find an updated AFCAD version that includes parking spots for PAKT?. I'll try a search on AVSIM to see if I'm lucky.

For sure, and PAKT is a complex example.

Congrats for your excellent work.

Hi Ed,

Take a look at my Dropbox for a ORBX PAKT AFCAD:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/bovg5u9vmk0cy3m/PAKT_ADEP4_CS.zip?dl=0

Deactivate the static aircraft, go to ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_AA_PAKT\Scenery and rename PAKT_ADEP2_TRB_NoPark.BGL to PAKT_ADEP2_TRB_NoPark.ORIG, and copy my bgl to the same folder.
The altitude adjustment in "world" should not be required any longer with 4.5 HF2. But If you notice any aircraft a few feet over the ground than copy the alt file to  \Scenery\World\scenery and deactivate any ORBX alt adjustment for PAKT.

Best,
Christoph

I've got ORBX PAKT working fairly well. It's not perfect, but they do taxi to and from the parking. The big issue here is the slope is massive, it's a 60+ foot difference between the parking and the runway less than 800 feet away. The issues I'm seeing now are the AI landing a bit short prior to the TDZ and taxiing from the runway down to the parking they do go into the terrain, but not on the way to the runway.
