Noel As long as everybody is spread out equally standing on their square mile area, fine. But do the people congregate in a place, like a store or an office? Or does everybody always have nothing but desert and tumbleweeds for a mile around them? Even if there are on,y two people in an entire state, if they get within six feet of each other at the one general store, the disease can still be spread. If your threshold is x cases that will makes you finally take it seriously, it means that there are already x times several times more. Your only hope at keeping it below your threshold of seriousness is to take measures before you actually see the increase.

Late this morning I had to accompany him to the heat doctor (which is why I am behind in the replies). Now, as I understand it the purpose of the mask is to prevent the person who is wearing it from spreading the disease to others. But the whole purpose is negated because in both places the nurses, orderlies, and doctors all had to drop their masks to talk to us because when wearing them it's difficult to understand what they are asking or saying. Likewise we had to drop our masks to answer their questions. One of the problems is people don't enunciate properly and tend to slur words in ordinary speech. When I was in grammar school we were taught diction. How to properly pronounce words while speaking. The worse masks are the high tech ones the doctors and some of the techs are wearing. They have some sort of canisters on the corners. They remind me of the gas masks we wore in the service. But even the simple ones like the one they handed me at the door this morning tend to muffle what you are saying. Noel I’ve been able to understand others and others have been able to understand me just fine. But then as a pilot, I long ago trained myself to enunciate what I say and listen carefully to others.

But I have a hearing loss which makes it more difficult to understand what people are saying. When people talk through masks I hear mumbling. I do wear a hearing aid but it doesn't hep much. But with more than half of the people I see in the market going bare faced at this time there have been no significant increase in cases. With all these 'typhoid Marys' running around WalMart, Albertsons Market, Walgreens, Office Max, Home Depot, Target, Farmer's Market and Ace Hardware we get perhaps 1 or two new cases a week. Don't you think if even a fraction of us were asymptomatic we'd see more than that. And if we did we we'd start wearing the word not allowed things. Well on Saturday we are going to have to. I suggest we have a national speed limit of 45MPH to save lives. What would you say to a person you injured in an accident if you were driving 55? And most people don't obey speed limits anyway. Noel I wouldn’t say anything to that person. I would only speak to my lawyer at that point. Because if I injured someone while driving 10 miles per hour over the limit, it would only increase my potential liability or decrease their culpability. Just like how if they contact traced the person in the icu and determined that you were the only person he could have contracted the disease from while you were defying the mask mandate, you may be advised to hire a lawyer. And I would like to see you try the ‘most people don’t obey’ defense in a court of law and see where it gets you.
May 20, 20206 yr How many of you are going to continue to wear masks after the coronavirus thing ends (if ever) when cold and flue seasons arrive each year? The common cold virus may be more common than previously thought in university students not reporting any symptoms. Rhinovirus, the virus responsible for the common cold was found at some point during an 8-week study period in an estimated 60% of university students that were asymptomatic. Researchers from Canada report their findings at the 2012 General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology. People with flu can spread it to others up to about 6 feet away. Most experts think that flu viruses spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Less often, a person might get flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. Noel The tires are worn. May 20, 20206 yr What happens f there is no end to this coronavirus thing? Do we keep wearing masks for the rest of our lives or do we at some point say to hell with it. Let nature take is course and live with it. Add coronavirus to the list of everything else humans die of that we can't really do anything about. Reminder...this is a what if question. Not a recommendation. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
