As long as everybody is spread out equally standing on their square mile area, fine. But do the people congregate in a place, like a store or an office? Or does everybody always have nothing but desert and tumbleweeds for a mile around them? Even if there are on,y two people in an entire state, if they get within six feet of each other at the one general store, the disease can still be spread.

If your threshold is x cases that will makes you finally take it seriously, it means that there are already x times several times more. Your only hope at keeping it below your threshold of seriousness is to take measures before you actually see the increase.

Now, as I understand it the purpose of the mask is to prevent the person who is wearing it from spreading the disease to others.  But the whole purpose is negated because in both places the nurses, orderlies, and doctors all had to drop their masks to talk to us because when wearing them it's difficult to understand what they are asking or saying.  Likewise we had to drop our masks to answer their questions.

One of the problems is people don't enunciate properly and tend to slur words in ordinary speech.  When I was in grammar school we were taught diction.  How to properly pronounce words while speaking.

The worse masks are the high tech ones the doctors and some of the techs are wearing.  They have some sort of canisters on the corners.  They remind me of the gas masks we wore in the service.

But even the simple ones like the one they handed me at the door this morning tend to muffle what you are saying.

I think I already answered this.  I see man y people not wearng masks at WalMart, Farmers Market, Albertsons, Target, Home Depot, Ace Hardware and other places.

Me too.  As well as diction classes in grammar school.  But I have a hearing loss which makes it more difficult to understand what people are saying.  When people talk through masks I hear mumbling.  I do wear a hearing aid but it doesn't hep much.

Around here 'what' is becoming, and will become as of Saturday, one of the most used words in the English language.

Because if I injured someone while driving 10 miles per hour over the limit, it would only increase my potential liability or decrease their culpability. Just like how if they contact traced the person in the icu and determined that you were the only person he could have contracted the disease from while you were defying the mask mandate, you may be advised to hire a lawyer. And I would like to see you try the ‘most people don’t obey’ defense in a court of law and see where it gets you.

What happens f there is no end to this coronavirus thing?  Do we keep wearing masks for the rest of our lives or do we at some point say to hell with it.  Let nature take is course and live with it.  Add coronavirus to the list of everything else humans die of that we can't really do anything about.

Yes. It will be part of normality. If there is no vaccine, if immunity is limited. Masks will be part of our permanent, normal lives.
