May 20, 20206 yr A couple of times during this thread, numbers of persons affected, dead, or recovered, and how those numbers were and were not being presented came into question. Suggestions were made about possible exaggeration in the media or even alteration to make things seem worse, though no real evidence was given. Now some more substantial questions are being raised, as both the states of Georgia and Florida are being scrutinized for the way numbers are being handled. Something to keep a close eye on. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/05/19/new-political-battleground-over-coronavirus-math/ We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... Apart from our friendly bickering back and forth, we all have the love of aviation in common and have done a remarkable job on keeping politics out of the conversations for the most part, thanks for the moderators keeping an eye on us. A lot of the articles that have had their reference posted have been very informative. I've learned a lot and hopefully others have as well. The more you learn about this virus and the epidemiology of this historical pandemic the more fascinating it becomes. Martin

But it does get your attention. So... full precautions are in force here for the foreseeable future. Alan, if I lived in such an ant hill or beehive I'd probably wear a mask 24/7. My house is on two lots and the yard surrounds the house. And I have 4 cats. I have cat doors to the back yard and one of the side yards so they can go in and out at will. That means I don't have to bother with litter boxes. Also have two 70 foot high pecan trees that give us good shade. You can see how different you and I are in where we are located, how we live, how serious the pandemic is in our respective areas, how different our climates are, how different our lifestyles are, how different our backgrounds are, etcetera-etcetera-etcetera. We live in two different worlds so quite naturally we wouldn't see things the same way. I imagine that goes for most of us here. I wouldn't try to put you in my shoes, and you don't try to put me in your shoes. We respect each other's opinions and choices even if we disagree on some things. And that's how it should be. Martin That’s why you and Alan took to this topic like moths to a flame. I can’t attest to that. My mom was an RN and one of my other family members was a medical doctor. Being around them when they spoke shop, so to speak, was about as interesting to me as listen to accountants talking figures. Health care, medicine, and things of that nature were never an interest of mine. Unfortunately because it’s a good field to be in but you have to either love it or have a desire to work in that field. Kind of like studying law and becoming an attorney, you’ve got to have a strong interest in it besides the monetary gain to go into that field. Now astronomy, aviation, astronautics and meteorology is something I can sink my teeth into. In a way it’s ironic that I kill people for a living and my mom saved people for a living 😂😂 Edited May 20, 20206 yr by cmpbellsjc Spelling and content Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

Not sure if you get the science program NOVA, if you do it's worth checking out! Martin

I remember when I was a kid we’d watch astronomy shows on NOVA . That was years ago, back in the day of a show called In Search Of hosted by Leonard Nimoy. It's my personal decision for myself, not for anyone else. The instant you do so in a place with others, it is no longer your personal decision. Whatever you do in your own space, that's your business. I don't wear a mask at home either. But if I'm out in a shared space - it's no longer my decision alone and my actions may impact others negatively, no matter what I think, feel, or believe. I guess I'll be the odd one out, as I pretty much can't think of any subjects i'm not at least a little bit interested in. As a kid i would happily read a cereal box if left alone with one for a minute...... If there was no cereal box, I would simply disassemble anything mechanical or electronic nearby and amuse myself putting it back together, while wondering why the adults were making such a fuss...... 😕 Edited May 20, 20206 yr by HiFlyer We are all connected..... I've always had a hard time settling on any one subject. The nice thing about being, fundamentally, a writer, is that you can take your skills - your bag of tools, so to speak - and carry them from one job to another. After a decade in healthcare, I decided I was feeling claustrophobic - and also that there were some interesting people doing other things that I wanted to work with - and I wound up spending the next ten years doing tech. Got to ride the internet boom and bust c. 1999-2001, so that was its own kind of adventure. The fellow I sometimes speak about who was my mentor in the PR business liked to say that it was the perfect profession for people who didn't know what they wanted to be when they grew up. That would be me. Edited May 20, 20206 yr by Alan_A Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
