June 14, 20205 yr Hi, am I the only one who thinks that the stormy water in the Gibraltar-approach looks really sort of "too much"? Just reviewed some stormy approach videos on youtube and the water is really different: white caps, lots of waves, but not this gigantic one in the video... Oh, and still no fuzzy cirrus clouds in the Sim 😄 -but that's another topic 😁
June 14, 20205 yr frankly, i like it very much. Besides, we don't even know how strong the storm is. So we cannot judge it correctly. Edited June 14, 20205 yr by Deleted
June 14, 20205 yr Seems like waves are the new trees? 🙂 Seriously, I agree. The waves are much too big and are moving around way too fast. It looks more like the waves in a small swimming pool seen from up close than like an ocean. It makes the whole scene look like a miniature. I'm confident they will fine-tune the waves until release. June 14, 20205 yr Let's not make any judgments until we know what the METAR was at the time. Let us know what the chaps at ASOBO tell you when you ask... All I know is; GIB's a difficult landing not just because of the Airspace complications and Terrain but also because you never know what the wind and tide are doing - they change on a tuppence - which in old English means - it's different from moment to moment. But a good observation. Well done and agreed. In fullness of your post - I guess something like that is "pushing" the new sim to show us just how new and different and "now" it can be. Let us see.... AFAIK tree scaling has not been fixed, nor is it even mentioned in the "top issues" slide. 🤦♂️ Maybe there's an 18 year hipster intern in charge whose attitude is "wow man, these big waves are so kool"? 🙊 Matthew S
June 15, 20205 yr Commercial Member Having been on the ocean water in strong storms... they didn't look unrealistic to me. But hey... what do I know? 🙂 Maybe we can get them to put the FSX waves back in? Edited June 15, 20205 yr by WarpD Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
June 15, 20205 yr I would lie saying that I care much for this video but the waves look OK to me except for the cresting foam or rather the lack thereof. 9 hours ago, Will Fly For Cheese said: you never know what the wind and tide are doing - they change on a tuppence -. I was thinking more of that screenshot of Nice in one of the updates. Found it. Very odd tide behaviour or surf/ wave fault.

Additionally the wave period with such high waves should be significantly longer. The lack of the white crests and the fast movement of the waves make the scene look wrong to me.
June 15, 20205 yr I tried to locate that video but I can't find it. Could someone point my to the right direction please. Thank you. Hans

As long as we can estimate the wave height, we can have a pretty good guess at the storm strength from this chart: https://www.weather.gov/media/pqr/beaufort/beaufort.pdf Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

June 15, 20205 yr Just now, Will Fly For Cheese said: I was thinking more of that screenshot of Nice in one of the updates. Found it. Very odd tide behaviour or surf/ wave fault. The tides in Nice oscillate over about 30 cm and are less than 60 cm at maximum. Gibraltar tides are a little higher but still well below 1 m at max (around 80 cm max). The tides are very small in the Med regions. We don't have the wonderful beaches at low tides they have on the Atlantic. Now the direction of the surf (wave activity between the breakers and the shore) is indeed another matter related, in my opinion, to the wind direction and coast shape. The LFMN perimeter is in a large and open bay. LXGB has one threshold is on a small and closed bay. I suppose that the surf is very different at one threshold and in the other. One thing is sure, the storm winds can be quite strong along the coast. Believe me, we had some taste of it the last few months 😉 ! June 15, 20205 yr Okay, I shouldn't have just said the waves are too big. Of course waves can have that height in high winds. It is the combination of wave height, wave length and (lack of) white crests, which appears to be wrong to me. Either the wave height is correct according to the wind, but then the wave length is much too short - it's just 2-3 seconds as can be seen just before the clip accelerates - and white crests are missing. Or the wave length and the lack of white crests are correct according to the wind, but then the waves are too high. Nevertheless Asobo have already come a long way since the circular waves from some of the earliest shots, and I am sure it is still work in progress, so I am confident the waves will be accurate on release.
