Spirit Airlines in the News!

Featured Replies

Like the gate agents have any control over the delay and getting the flight back on schedule.

Hopefully these 3 were permanently banned from flying on Spirit.

Oh dear... I can see how that incident may get far too political or discriminatory in these crazy times....

Do airlines or airport authorities have any kind of "naughty" lists? What I mean is if a person gets banned from flying on a particular airline then what's to stop them misbehaving in similar circumstances when trying to use a different airline? Hopefully word gets around for such bad behaviour and the perpetrators allowed to fly only if on their "best behaviour".

you are under Maritime Law, and that's a lot less politically correct ...

That is a GOOD thing in my opinion!

Don't know if I ever mentioned it on AVSIM, but my wife and I had a chat with two strapping MP5 and Glock toting coppers at Manchester some years ago when going to Tenerife. We were off to stay in my brother-in-law's timeshare apartment. Our two young kids had stayed overnight at Aunty and Uncle's - they had all departed from Leeds-Bradford.

So we get to the check in and there's a pause.. my wife's photo page in her passport at the time was delaminated. In fact when she got it brand new, from the passport office at Bootle (UK citizens know it well) the page was delaminated - the glossy front protective film loose from the actual paper. This was never a problem on the occasions she had used it to go to France and back on Eurostar..

Obviously panic sets in as our kids are winging across the south coast by this time. Should I go on my own? Do I get a message to my brother-in-law? I wasn't about to leave my wife at home so I could jolly off to the Canaries, (might do it now 15 years later! LOL). "Please take a seat, see what we can do".

TL:DR Two armed police came over with the passport - looked at my wife, looked at the passport details - "No problem sir and madam - it's obvious that it's yourself. You wouldn't believe what we've seen etc." All smiles and trying to reassure my missus. It was quite surreal, my wife was totally on edge due to armed Police and I'm there thinking "Nice loadout and chest rigs, chaps!" The airline let us go on our way with a waiver which basically said that we might be liable for a thousand quid fine at the Spanish end. The waiver would still have allowed us to proceed with our holiday if we were asked to produce it. The Spanish immigration officer? (guy who examines your passport on arrival) did a slight double take, then OK'd us to go through. Similar double take on the way back but still OK. PHEW! Incidentally my credit card would have stood the fine had it happened so no worries there. (Don't have a credit card anymore, nor do I have a valid passport!)

That was almost a nightly occurrence when I worked at DFW. Spirit was constantly in the news for having disturbances because of cancelled flights.

Did I hear one of them shout "On Time Flights Matter!"

This is what our combative, in-you-face, society is coming to.  Like the coronavirus things are just going to get worse.  When people can't control themselves and peaceful demonstrations turn into near riots more and more force is going to be applied.  It just takes a few to challenge authority before that authority becomes more restrictive and authoritarian candidates for office become the perceived answer.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

That may be one aspect, but another aspect is the selling products and services that promise more than they deliver. Spirit Airlines should list all the possible risks to passengers on its website, just like drug companies do in their ads.

"Travelling with Spirit Airlines may result in expectations being rendered unrealistic, angry fellow travellers, and the prospect of violent altercations (please have your smart devices ready). Would you care to look at our frequent flyer program & Spirit Airlines membership card?"

Glad to see things are getting back to normal!
