Let me just say that I am excited for the release of MSFS 2020.  I have been out of Flight Simming for a couple of years and remember spending hours and hours trying to tweak this and that and realizing that I haven’t even completed a flight.  I am hoping this runs as good as I have been seeing.

I think you have found your archenemy in MSFS, and you know XP11 though XP100 won't compare to MSFS....and that's why the MSFS forums (that you scroll and troll) irk you so much.

You know...you got me thinking, and maybe you are right. I kinda got drawn into playing X-Plane´s advocate here and maybe I am spoiling the party that everyone is trying to have...

I will bow out of the discussion and let you guys have your moment - and hopefully a great time when the new simulator comes out.

I will reserve the right to voice my opinion on the X-Plane forum (if I find people badmouthing X-Plane there) and of course on the other big X-Plane website.

Why would you do that? There's no law against having (and indeed using and enjoying) more than one flight sim. And since that's true, there's similarly no law against pointing out the good and bad bits of each one. Nobody has to be married to one bit of software, because if they are, they will surely miss out on at least something or other.

There's little doubt there are some shiny and impressive things in the forthcoming MS sim, but every other flight sim can claim that too. Do all of them have a good payware A350? nope, but XPlane does. What about a shiny new payware DC-3? nope, but P3D, FSX and XPlane all have one of these. We can pick and have a pop at aspects of every different flight sim in some respect, but so long as we do this with respect to honesty, there really is no need to be partisan about it.

This is one of the reasons why I did this today:

44Gbs of RAM, and that's not the end of it either, more stuff is on the way in the post!

Your are biased, I can sort that out and will sometimes call it out. But, at least , you don't word not allowed the public with disinformation. You are not IMHO at your best when you play the XP lawyer but when you don the scenery designer costume. 

We need a little salt and pepper anyway. Heaven preserve us to see the FS20  community become as intolerant as the Holy Laminar Church 🤣 !

I think you may be reading what I said with the opposite intention of what I'm trying to convey. Unfortunately, I can't really be much clearer than that.

Nope, that's 44Gb. Two 16Gb sticks and and 8Gb and a 4Gb for a total of 44Gb. Which is a bit out of the ordinary, but it works. There's some Optane SS stuff in the post which is going to join it, and a dedicated 480Gb SSD drive which will be for the new MS sim to give streaming a bit of headroom. This MSFS malarkey is gonna do wonders for hardware sales lol.

Not too familiar with this Optane stuff, will you be using the two 16GB sticks in dual-channel mode and the other two as a cache for the SSD?

Not quite decided on that yet, bit of experimentation is in order I think. Ultimately, I'll do whatever works best. 🙂

That's definitely fair. I have 16 cores on my Threadripper, so I tend to go with x264 instead of NVENC, to keep the GPU as unloaded as possible. I also don't care much for the quality of NVENC, but that's more of a subjective thing. I'll go up to 5Kbps or more sometimes.

I'm not sure if that helps you or not.

What's for sure is that only the two 16GB sticks can run in dual-channel mode and using the other sticks as system RAM would end up being detrimental to performance, so probably not much choice in there. I'll be looking forward to your results.
