Regular GTX 1080 enough to play in 4k?

Recommended Posts

I can get a 2080ti for half price right now. Is it worth upgrading from a 1080ti to a 2080ti as far as this game?

Why not wait for the 3000 series that is coming in a couple of months? Your 1080ti is enough to run this game at ultra. You will get 2080ti performance at a lower cost if you wait.

Well it won't be cheaper to wait as the 3080 will be expensive but a good deal more powerful than the 2080ti

All I want to do is fly the GA aircraft in mountains and small cities at 40ish FPS on high settings.

System specs below

1080ti sc  11 gb

I7 7700 4.5 ghz

32 gb 4200 ram

If you want 2080ti performance it won't be as expensive as getting a 2080ti right now. Its rumoured that even the 3060 will be slightly worse than the 2080ti. So you could get a "mid tier" 3070 for 500 bucks that probably will be more powerful than the 2080ti. A 3080 will certainly be much much more powerful than the 2080ti.

Why are you worrying? 🙂 Just wait for tuesday, i think after launch you won't be in a hurry to upgrade right now.

I just see a lot of videos on YouTube and everyone is running at 4K and 2K and all I want to do is run at 1080p on high settings.

I don't care much for flying around big cities like Los Angeles and New York. Just want to fly out of some of the smaller Regional airports and Bush fields

I think you will be fine with your GTX 1080 Ti under these conditions. It's still a very strong card, and the performance increase you'd get from the RTX 2080 Ti wouldn't be a true upgrade.

If you decide that you do need an upgrade, then it would be a better idea to wait for the new Ampere or RDNA 2 GPUs coming the next few months.

Don't be obsessed with 4K.  Its over rated.  1440P with higher fps is way to go.  Unless your 15 inches from screen your not going to see much difference except for the fps hit.

Absurd!

Plugged into my 4K TV.  I've been using my widescreen 3440x1440. Now when I plugged in the display it came up at 4K@30HZ (HDMI) and it was pretty darn smooth in the rural areas @ Ultra .  I pulled down the Render setting from 100 to 80 - Sedona had quite a few players in there. Tried NYC from LaGuardia and it was a little choppy for my system at those settings . Stunning at that resolution nonetheless. Before buying a 4K computer monitor try the TV if you have one.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if a sim had an option for auto-adjusted settings based on system specs and thus adjusts res "on the fly" based on the area you are in and/or your altitude?  Rural vs small city vs major metro area vs low and slow vs GA cruise at 10,000 vs Hi Alt cruise and speed?

1070Ti struggles in the busiest areas but otherwise fine in 4K, i have 32GB Ram and an i9-9900k at 4.9Ghz.

A cheap used 2080 will be in my future when people are busy upgrading.

Actually, one simulation does a version of that on the Fly... IL2 Sturmovik.  It will adjust your rendering based on frame rates dipping below your target frame rate.

even with a 2080ti I'm seeing people struggle with 4k.  My personal opinion is no 4k for now.  Then we can re-evaluate when the newest graphic cards come out later this year.  Then again I've seen videos where people seem personally content with frames dancing around in the teens.  But I think 4k is not a good option unless we can maintain 30 everywhere.

Well said!

So when 4K is mentioned, is it 3840 X 2160?  Or does it include 2560 X 1440?
