Where Are the Airports?

Featured Replies

When I try to start a flight, I only have about 40-50 airports to choose from. That is try in map view as well. Shouldn't I have like 37,000? Is there a filter I need to turn off?

Thanks,

Dave

Zoom in closer or manually type in the airport you want

(Updated) This is a bug on initial install. All anyone needs to do is either relaunch the sim (according to some other posts that had the same issue) or zoom in on one of the non-recommend airports which will trigger the database to work from then on. The rest of this thread is mainly a couple of children trying to tell those of us who actually saw this bug that we didn't see it. Go figure.

Did you think they were going to have all 37k airports in a drop down list for you to choose from? 🤦🏿‍♂️ You have to type the airport code

Yeah, this is just wrong and, at best, a work-around. It's like telling someone using a TV to first go to the show they want before they can see the Guide. This better be a bug. hehe It's a database. Look up the airport and show it.

That makes no sense, you want all 37.000 airports to be displayed as large dots, absolutly covering the globe in dots so you can't see a thing? That's the craziest thing I've heard today. Of course it makes sense to display key landmarks, major airports, star marked airports etc. and then you get more as you zoom in. If you want something specific, you search for it.

No, I don't. What I want (and others expect) is that when I type "KPHL" into a SEARCH box that it looks up KPHL and finds it in the database and returns it without ever needing to zoom into the fancy Earth tool. Yeah, crazy. A database that actually lets you find things you type into it. I'll bet no one has ever done that before. Wait, that's how every database known to man EXCEPT this one works.

Do you not get it yet??? The OP and me (and others) DID SEARCH FOR IT and the search box returned NO results.

Imagine if you search here and the only results you get across the entire forum are for only the 40 most popular topics. Oh! You want something more specific? Go find the thread you want manually. Just zoom down to it and THEN it'll appear in the search. Yeah, that makes logical sense. In other words, it doesn't and you entirely went off the deep end before you understood what we were actually talking about.

Heh, talking about going off the deep end, good lord.

Works fine for me, typing in the ICAO and it finds whatever I need, I know, crazy 🙂

We did. That's what you're not following. Go ahead and type KPHL into the search box. It won't return a hit on a fresh install where you go directly to the Destination Airport box. We don't expect 37,000 things in a drop-down. We do expect 37,000 airports to be in the database so that you can use the SEARCH (see, it's right in the name!) box to .... Oh, I don't know... SEARCH for it?

Cascading dropdown menus for countries, provinces, cities and airports is the way it works in all the FS and P3D versions I have had.

Talk about dodging your mistake....

Typing in the ICAO is not working for everyone. That's what the OP commented about. Keep digging.

Sorry, I should have been more clear, I only have 40-50 airports even when I try to type the ICAO code.

Just to make it clear, zooming in uncovers all of the airports in the area like the old flight planner, right? Or do some always remain hidden?

Same here. It was perfectly clear to me because I also experienced the same thing. The ONLY airports it would find were the ones in the pull-down. Not much of a search box. Once I zoomed down and manually selected THEN it could be found by "Search".

Sounds like a partial install.

Make sure you don't have any filters on. Typing in the airport code works fine for me
