Settings than Impact Stutters/Smoothness

Featured Replies

This probably won't help but I installed the game on my other computer (3900x with a 1080ti and 32 gb memory) and it smoothed out in NYC compared to my original install on my 9900k so Im still tyring to figure out if it was the extra memory or the extra cores of the 3900x that helped.

I'm leaning to memory of only 16 and just needed the 32 for that extra performance.

Well I have tried all night. The stutters seem to be independent from the settings, it's just unoptimized code. It was a rushed release, so there's hope for patches. In this state, VR is completely off the table, probably complex planes too, so Asobo has to work on this.

The RAM theory remains a myth until proven - never has (more than sufficient) RAM improved smoothness in a flight sim.

Same, I have tried everything. Sometimes its fine for a few seconds so I know it can be smooth. I recently tried "Run as Admin" but to no avail. Settings at Low, Med or High, doesn't really make a difference. CPU usage is near or at 100%, GPU usage is all over and seems to be directly linked to the stutters.

Most of us seem to be running 10 series cards? Driver issue from NVIDIA maybe?

Somebody posted yesterday Nvidia released a new driver, I think he said it was for MSFS, but don't quote me. I can't find the post now, a needle in a thousand haystacks

Yes they did. I just went on the official message board and almost everyone complaining of bad performance and stutters seems to have a 10 series card, just like most of us here. I'm 100% confident the "game ready" drivers NVIDIA dropped are not so ready for people with 10 series cards.

Ok, I have a 10 series too, but my driver is still a few versions back. My sim has not quite finished downloading, so will be interesting what performance I get.

I am experiencing long "pauses'.  I have been an Alpha tester since the beginning and never had this on any of the Alpha builds.  It does not matter which aircraft I am using but at times the sim will pause for 15-20 seconds.  I did update to the latest Nvidia drivers 452.06 before installing this morning and I am running a 1080ti.

Not having the issue in the Alpha build is encouraging...that maybe this can be fixed relatively soon...or at least pinpoint what went wrong for release version.

I have a GTX 1080....ran into stutter issues until I fixed it with these settings....

Set my TV to 30hz (or1/2 refresh @60hz), turned on VSync...and set MSFS fps limit to 60, not 30, but 60.

Another poster confirmed similar settings and smooth results.

FWIW I had 1-2 stutters on an evening flight over london with both ORBX London addons enabled,  but was stutter free on all my roughly 10 other flights,  including at JFK and LAX.  and the London stutters were barely noticeable.  Running 2070RTX with i9900k @5 Ghz 1080p most settings ultra other than AO and depth of field. GPU utilization for me rests at about 89 percent.  The new driver theory sounds most likely if it's only happening on 10 series cards, and if it wasn't going on in the alpha/beta.  can the drivers be rolled back?

I uninstalled drivers and ended up with some from back in april without much change before doing a fresh install with the latest drivers. I will try rolling back to whatever drivers people would have been using a couple weeks ago (451.57 dated July 9th)  in beta and see what happens.

Yes, you can do a Nvidia search to get older drivers. Let us know how you get on. You could be onto something

If you are already running 30hz, then you don't need the 1/2 refresh @60 setting.

To answer your question, the 1/2 refresh option is found in the nvidia control panel or nvidia inspector...it is an option in the vsync setting...be sure that you are using the MSFS profile or a global setting. Your TV should be @60hz if you use this option to get you back to 30.

In my first real job I tested monitors for a living which left me forever susceptible to seeing video anomalies that others never see. They hate when they realize they just asked me what I think of their TV or monitor and realize I'm going to end up making them see what they couldn't see before. "Oh, you love your Shield? Notice how it judders on these shows? No? Look. See that? Yeah, that's judder."

I mention that because, for what it's worth, so far on my setup I haven't seen hide nor hair of a stutter and I totally agree that someone with stutters should dry offline play for five minutes (well 10 given the insane slow load time of this for now) just to rule streaming logjams as an issue.

I also am at least a few drivers old on my Nvidia card and won't update now. If it is that, thanks! Be sure to tell us if they release anything else that fixes it.
