You would think they could use an AI to read sectionals and insert generic power lines whereever they're noted. Which, unfortunately, isn't all that much because only power lines that are at 200+AGL or present an obstruction (i.e, if a power line is right near the end of a runway) are required to be charted. Beyond that they only get charted if whoever is editing the sectional decides they have value as a landmark.

On the other hand, they could try tapping into the Energy Information Administration  - those guys have most if not all powerlines mapped in an easily searchable format.

 

That said, OP.. Man. You've gotta calm down. You're gonna give yourself an aneurysm over power lines in a flight sim...

First of all the sim is really fun and I really enjoy it as a guy who mainly was flying airliners to now flying GA...

But I don’t get where you are getting the idea that they will add something like powerlines or towers? Yes they will improve the product over time but there is nothing specific that they have said about the matter. Every thread it’s “they will add it later” yes maybe, but not for sure until it’s announced.

Me too. I even took up flying airliners again. I love this sim.

In one of the interviews one of the devs (Neumann I think it was) said something about obstacles being worked on. I can’t remember the exact words. I’ll see if I can find the interview.

Ok lets be real here...it's not power lines that are of issue, it is the transmission towers, radio towers and smoke stacks that are often useful as checkpoints in VFR planning.

I think everyone realizes you can't actually see the power "lines' themselves...which is a good reason not to go below the vasi's on approach (LOL).

There would be no need to do that (at least in the US), as the FAA digital hazards database is freely available, and that database is the source that the antenna and power line graphics on printed sectionals are derived from.

Found it! Mark 3:50 - but it's german.

Basically he says that obstacle data is something they look to incorporate into the sim among other stuff within the nex months.

There are Antenna in Seattle. Only place I've seen them.

Seattle is also the only place I've ever seen the icon for obstacles on the VFR map.
