Auto-Control the difference between a Simulator and a Game

Featured Replies

Those aids are there for people entering flight simulation. To them, these aids are valuable. All you have to do, is turn them off.

You need to learn to walk before you can run.

Honestly, it looks like a big nothing burger to me.

If you would complain about bugs, or technical inadequacies. But complaining about optional (!) modes?!

Yeah, they should implement a checkbox to disable the tooltips and highlights in checklists.

But this seems like constructed drama.

Happy with MSFS 🙂

This forum is the place where no opinion is entitled without a bunch of folks looking and thinking

"hmm , how can i counter that"

"lets, see: what reasons can i put to show that he is wrong?"

whatever, its my thought or wishful feature in an otherwise nearly perfect and dream sim

carry on folks

Yep, on Grand Turismo 4, 5, 6 it's called B spec mode. In Forza your Drivatar can race for you, and previously you could hire drivers.

How naive.

Thats called "discussion" and always contains at least 2 different opinions.

And (my humble opinion) sales in the longer would be higher for the "realistic" version. Cause all those youtuber kids showing off their landings, looking for viewers, likes and subscribers, would even post in the title using "Pro" version

two teens:

"Hey look at my landing video"

- "Get out! you are using the easy version"

"No man, I swear its the Pro, I'll send you a print of my version"

Yes, many many many would go for the realistic, and I am sure someday they will release one

A simulator is a software or hardware that imitates as much as possible the real thing

A game is something that has one button to solve the puzzle or game

By MS adding the Auto-Control, plus auto-land and auto-takeoff for the sake of toddlers in Xbox...is for simmers, disapointing

Its not simple as "dont use the feature" if the auto-everything is there it takes out a lot deal of the immersion

I hope in future they will release a "Pro" version of the sim that could have no tips, no auto-flying with just one button and "easy flying" modes

Some of you (if I dont say this) will counter:
"But real planes have auto-land, etc"

How naive. Yes. But you know why when a pilot has the runway in sight or vfr he prefers to land it manually?
Because "auto-land" is not what it seems to the general public
Actually auto-land is VERY complicated, requiring a lot of previous work, settings and programming.
Same thing as FMC auto take off and route

So people have the wrong idea that auto-land is just pressing a button.
No, actually its easier to manually land the plane, provided you have the skills

By having a One button auto-complete mission, will back-fire in the intent to please young xbox kids into controlling a 747

interesting discussion 😉

It seems to confirm my assumption, that MS2020 is a great product, especially to graphics. But it appears to be not comparable to other - let's call them - simulators, which lay more focus on realistic flight models.

I for example use P3D with Jeehell A320 FMGS today. This has a realistic flight model with most physical conditions considered. Assuming, I could import this in MSFS2020 and deactivate the "auto-control" button, it would still not follow a realistic flight pattern.

So it's just two different type of products for different customer groups. I guess, this is what the Thread opener wanted to express with this thread.

So thanks Kapitan! At least to me this was helpful to learn.

Shall everyone choose the product of choice 🙂

I’m really having a hard time comprehending complaints about features that can be turned off.  The first thing I did was set the realism/difficult settings to the highest levels so I would never have to consider or think about the various aids that have been added for new simmers.  Guess what, they don’t impact me in any way and I can carry on using this as a sim.

Sure, when I use live multiplayer i see some people doing dumb thing - I saw an A320 trying to lift off from KTEX last night until it hit the hill at the end of 09 - and it gave me a laugh!  But when I want to do more serious simming I can turn off the multiplayer.

The complicated jets will come, but that type of content is never provided in a base flight simulator release, no one should be surprised about that.  As it is, the default planes are they best we’ve ever gotten in a sim.

Have you heard of "Virtual Airlines" they take it seriously and dont allow disrupters in their online simulations. I am sure if a "realistic" version existed many VA would require compulsory use of that version

the point is, that MSFS2020 seems to not even provide the required programming interfaces for more realistic flight model products.

At least from what I heard. And at least for now. Maybe it's part of their development roadmap.

Of course i have and frankly, who cares?  My VA allows either offline flight or online using vatsim/ivao.  Even on vatsim you can find clowns being clowns from time to time.  What I described above really has no impact on VA’s.

I’m puzzled where you heard that given that all the major high fidelity aircraft addon developers other than FS Labs have said they are bringing their products for MSFS.
