August 24, 20205 yr You don't need the exe. Just set it system wide and Boot with windows. As for Nvidia driver... Just leave it default. Vert sync etc. just set to App Controlled settings. Leave monitor at 60hz native. Turn off Vert sync in the SIM. Voila ! But you have to have settings so you are easily getting 30 FPS. If it goes below it will still be a stutter fest. August 24, 20205 yr Okay, i will try big thanks! 🙂 Yes - 30fps are all time min. available. Good flight, sir! 😉

I can set my monitor at 60Hz and then the X/2 setting in RIVAtuner works fine but the 60Hz monitor refreshrate is an overall setting so it affects also my other stuff. I would like to keep it 120Hz at least and then go down to 30FPS locked in MSFS. RIVATuner does not have a X/4 setting so with X/2 i"m ending up at 60 FPS which is smooth but it's something i can't keep up. 30 Would be nice. 5 hours ago, Gabe777 said: Try setting screen refresh to 60 in nVidia driver. Then use the X/2 -1 setting in RivaTuner. It may read the refresh at 60 and work. I don't know as my monitor is word not allowed good, a BDM3270 from Philips, but it only does 60hz. ......Alternatively you will need G sync. Sell your monitor and get a G sync ! Set framerate limit in Nvidia to 60, and that G sync system sets 30 to 60 smooth. You don't need more than 60 in flightsim and limiting resources to 60 is better anyway. Lots of g sync tutorials on YouTube. My (main) monitor is a G-Sync one. I posted my question because i didn't had time to test a bit myself but this morning there was no response yet so nothing to try directly but now i did had some time to test so i ran some various tests. First the VSync setting and game and the 30/60FPS. With VSync off you have unlimited FPS, with VSync on these values refer to a 60Hz refreshrate. If you run a 120Hz refresh, the values are 60/120 instead and the sim does not bring them down to 30/60 like i thought it would. My 144Hz refreshrate will give then 72/144 as output in the sim (with VSync set to ON and 30/60 FPS selected ingame). I first tested with 120 Hz refresh in the nVidia driver and x/2 -1 in RIVATuner which gave a 60 FPS result ingame. But i can't keep 60 FPS steady and the CPU runs quite hot then (80°C or a bit more). Fans make to much noise for my taste. To go to 30 FPS ingame i tested 4 options: 1: Setting a 30 FPS cap in the nVidia driver. This alone is not good enough, more stutter then the other options. 2: Setting a x/2 -1 scanline in RIVATuner which brings FPS max down to 60 and add 30 in the RIVATuner Framelimiter: This is lot smoother, occasional stutter. Drawback is that it's on the RIVATuner global setting (since directly setting it on Flightsimulator.exe is not possible) 3: Setting a x/2 -1 scanline in RIVATuner which brings FPS max down to 60 and add a 30 FPS cap for Flightsimulator.exe in the nVidia driver. This is as smooth as 2 without the global drawback. 4: Setting a x/2 -1 scanline in RIVATuner which brings FPS max down to 60 and set ingame VSync to ON and then select 30FPS: Smoothness is the same as 2 and 3 if not smoother. To take advantage of my 144Hz refreshrate i moved it back up from 120Hz to 144Hz giving me 72 FPS on a x/2-1 setting in RIVATuner together with VSync on and 30FPS selected, gives then a fixed 36 FPS in game. This makes that the CPU runs less hot, less noise from the fans, a more steady FPS ingame then the fluctuating one (when half the refreshrate ingame is not selected) and an overall smooth experience (with the occational stutter) + the RIVATuner global setting now outputs 72 instead of 60Hz. August 24, 20205 yr Commercial Member Agreed, it is better to go for the maximum refresh capability of the monitor and slow the GPU output elsewhere. 144/4=36 which is a good compromise. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
August 24, 20205 yr So when I have a 120hz TV {OLED}, and want G sync between 40 and 60, where would I set 60 fps limit ? Cheers PS: OMG this stuff gives me a headache !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edited August 24, 20205 yr by Gabe777
August 24, 20205 yr Commercial Member Yeah it's a minefield. Use the monitor fastest refresh, and for limiting the GPU output there are several options: Use the in game setting, or externally with the Nvidia control panel or RTSS as Lange_666 suggested above. Run your monitor at 60hz native. Do nothing in Nvidia driver or inspector. And in the SIM remove vert sync. In P3D just set to Unlimited with TB off, and in MSFS turn vert sync OFF. It works great. This works good for me! The smoothest experience of all settings I've tried so far. There is minimal tearing on the VC / instruments but I don't see periodic stutters anymore. I like it. So Scanline X/2 which gives me 30 now, would limit g sync FPS on a 120 Hz TV to 60? Sounds to simple to be true ! 😁😁😁 Edited August 26, 20205 yr by Gabe777
August 26, 20205 yr Commercial Member Because it is halved. I'm getting good results with using a 60Hz monitor (not gsync) and using 30 limit in display settings (in game). The installation chose maximum settings all Ultra, but I've come down on a few settings. For a gsync monitor as an example if that monitor can gsync down to 30, then you might want to limit to something above 30, say 40, and allow the gsync to follow the refresh if it drops below 40. Why haven't you tried Scanline X/2. The in SIM 30 FPS vert sync is horrible. Scanline X/2 -2 is much better. Try it. Many have... And agree. Edited August 26, 20205 yr by Gabe777

I know that after the last release of P3Dv5, maximized windowed screens are treated as full screen mode( maybe this change is not Lockheed Martin's change, but Nividia driver change ??). You have to set G Sync Mode Windowed and Fullscreen in NCP. Otherwise G Sync is not working. You can verfify if G Sync works Ingame when you enable the G Sync Display in NCP.

And agree. The simulator VSync = On setting and setting the 30 limit is hard on any system. If the system can handle it, maybe by reducing settings, then that is smooth. Instead I can use VSync = Off in the simulator and in Nvidia Control Panel 3D settings, MSFS profile I can set 29fps limit with no VSync and that is also quite smooth and allows slightly higher settings. X/2 is VSync-ing on half the frames which also gives good results. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
