To vsync or not to vsync..

The simulator VSync = On setting and setting the 30 limit is hard on any system. If the system can handle it, maybe by reducing settings, then that is smooth. Instead I can use VSync = Off in the simulator and in Nvidia Control Panel 3D settings, MSFS profile I can set 29fps limit with no VSync and that is also quite smooth and allows slightly higher settings. X/2 is VSync-ing on half the frames which also gives good results.

Mate. Just TRY the Scanline setting.

You can always revert.

Maybe I'm dense but I dont see where to set x/2 -2 in Rivatuner.  I see scanline setting but not sure where x/2 is.

You have to click on the text where it says scanline. Not exactly intuitive, lol.

I did. I don't see that it is better than setting NCP to limit at 29. Panning around I don't see a tear line. Setting RTSS tear line adjustment made no difference, but I do see a notching of the panning as it slows near to stopped. So in the end I don't have to run RTSS and I can just limit NCP at 29 or I can use the in game vsync limit of 30 which is a little harder on the system. You may want to run the developer mode FPS display to keep track of the way  the GPU is outputting. So if I had a 120Hz monitor I would also limit at 29 (120/4=30) and if I had a 144Hz monitor I would limit at 28 (144/5=28.8) in NCP.

...With RTSS I found setting x/2 was better with -1 in the box as that avoided notchiness, rather than worry about tear line, which is then simply working as a half refresh setting - on 60Hz monitor giving 30Hz. Setting 29 or 30fps in the limiter was just as smooth. No different to setting 29 or 30 in NCP FPS Limiter. In effect running RTSS is overkill on my system.

What's the exe for FS2020 to add a profile to Rivatuner? I can't find it!

FlightSimulator.exe

However, I couldn't find it, the folder is access-protected. What I did is to go to the RTSS install folder, then the Profiles folder, and copy a profile I had for FSX. The config file was named fsx.exe.cfg, so, for the new one, I just renamed it to FlightSimulator.exe.cfg.

After that, restart RTSS and you have your profile for FS2020!

I had my smoothest flights ever with this until I got a CTD again 😭

Since I had those CTDs already before messing with RTSS, I'm sure RTSS has no influence at all.

No this will not work. See Bert Pieke's post about using RIVATUNER. Set Scanline Sync to X/2 and set the value to the right of that, to -1.

Run your monitor at 60hz native. Do nothing in Nvidia driver or inspector. And in the SIM remove vert sync. In P3D just set to Unlimited with TB off, and in MSFS turn vert sync OFF.

It works great.

MSFS in SIM 60 FPS vert sync setting is fab...  But 30 FPS lock is not good. Microstuttery everywhere.

And most of us will need 30 !

This RivaTuner fix is THE smoothest and simplest solution.

I've spent days on this and my original solution which was a messy combo, is bettered by Bert's.

Which version of Rivatuner? I can't find the setting.

Comes with MSi Afterburner. It's the RTSS sub program that appears in the taskbar. A blue icon.

YouTube it.

Only 2 adjustments needed.

Yeah I figured that out. Works perfectly!

May be me and my rig, but 30FPS limit in NCP works very well on a 60Hz monitor at 1440p, Unlimited and no Vsync in MFS. Steady 30FPS according to Fraps.

It works well as long as your system can render 35-40FPS (before being limited). As soon as you close in on 30, it becomes problematic.

The RTSS solution is the only one that works - for me at least.

Depending with all the tweaks never deeps down to 30 if no limiter, @High settings. RTSS works a little havier on FPS with no limier. The RTSS is not the only one solution by all means that works for me, even on the contrary I see better performance with 30 set in NCP. I'm suggesting new people reading this to try both, because the solutions are different as we have established.

Cheers!

It does.

But on my rig I found that I still had a few microstutters at certain angles.... In the search for perfection I found the RTSS solution to remove around 90 percent of the remaining stutters.

But I still get 5 second freezes every time I change weather ... Or just randomly... guess that's live streaming for you .....!

So maybe we shouldn't sweat the small stuff 🥴😁😁

And YMMV.

Just someone bring out a decent aircraft already 🤪🤪🤪💔

Steve i have a 120hz screen is it best to only use NCP and set MSFS to 29 FPS.? Nothing else to do?
