well i see a new born market here, the tools are here for everyone, incredible what people created just a few days after the launch, this was not possible a few years ago. Imagine where we will be in 1 year.

I saw someone inserted a Star Destroyer 3D modell  just hanging in the sky,

the possibilities exceed of being a just a flight simulator with this wonderfull render engine and the soon VR experience everything in real scale.

Dont forget, you dont need to install anything not related to flightsiming! 😅 but the possibilities

Afraid so. Without wanting to get into a lengthy legal debate - read the 'Fair use' and 'Prohibited Conduct' sections of Google's ToS. https://www.google.com/intl/en-GB/permissions/geoguidelines/

What is occuring now is probably going to be short-lived once Google is aware that it's copyrighted 3D models are being used in a competitor's product.

Anyway, I appreciate the work that these modders are doing to improve the default sim.

Don't know how MS benefits financially from this and as long as those who host their creations are not financially benefitting and Google are getting free exposure to the superiority of their product, this is hardly breaching any fair use.Further, most of the actual creations are the result of just regular people who want to show off their creativity in modeling. As long as authorship and ascription is made to them not much of a complaint. But since we live is a lame selfish society who knows.

F737NG - thank you for the explanation! 🍻 "Prohibited use of 3D models"

The devil has now been advocated. My other half brain (not the missing one!) is happy.

So good to see Scotland's major cities getting in before the (possible) lock, so to speak! Will definitely be trying these out.🙂

Wonder if, when you turn up the details to ultra on the Glasgow scenery, it has all the drunken bums around the entrance to Glasgow Central? 🤣

If you look closely enough, you can see the Glesgae Polis moving them on - they're on their way to the St Enoch Centre.😉

"... If Google aren't going to allow anyone to create free detailed scenery then who are they to say, "No you will not enjoy the sim of the enemy (MS) with free 3rd party mods.." Blackpool will NOT have a Tower.. Stonehenge will NOT be represented unless we say so..."

Who is Google to say no? They are the owners of source of the original content that the modelers use.

It's sort of like saying "Yeah, I really like the 2nd chapter of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (2016), so I will use it verbatim in my own children's novel that I am distributing to children everywhere for free. So what if J.K. Rowling (author) and Bloomsbury or Scholastic (publishers) don't like it because it is their original content and a component of their respective company's revenue-producing mechanisms, tough s___."

That said, it is pretty nifty what these modelers are doing. But don't delude yourself into thinking that it is all [legally] fine & dandy simply because you think so & hope it is.

Well legal problem or not.

It looks real, but doesn't fit in the current color range.

OK Rusty, I get it. F737NG explained it. To which I replied a couple of posts above.🍻

Perhaps I misread the tone of your reply, but I get the impression you might work for the faceless megacorp Google. :biggrin:

I am not deluded that it is fine and dandy. One does wonder though why Bing Maps couldn't resurrect their Bing Maps 3d (retired in 2011 I believe) models.Unless they've deleted it all and lost the know-how?

Given the amount of plagiarism the Harry Potter and the Bucket of Steam's author has allegedly indulged in, if she did complain about it, that'd really be the pot calling the kettle black (allegedly ).

She makes Jimmy Page look like a paragon of virtue in comparison. 🤣

Um, nope; nor do I work for any software company or for a publisher. I work for a very demanding boss though... myself. Yaayyy! ;;).
