September 10, 20205 yr Flew into KCIC in Butte County CA from KRNO to see the fires again threatening to burn up our poor town of Paradise yet again. We were evactuated out and barely made it out after the infamous Nov 8, 2018 Camp Fire and lost 2 rental properties there, but our primary house we built in 1985 survived, though all the neighbors' homes burned to the ground as did 90% of all homes in Paradise. The smoke and visibility changes looked spot on, unfortunately! Poor poor Cali! You can see the MODIS active fire data on the screenshot, the one you see the fire/smoke in the screenshots done w/ FireFighterX. 1374 McCullough Dr is where our surviving house remains, with a friend housesitting for the past 18 months as we moved out to Denver area in early 2019. On another note, I am in the middle of the exact same flight plan, KRNO>KCIC, this morning in MSFS. This flight has shown in spades cubed how much more realistic MSFS is out of the box than P3D could hope to be (at least currently), visually. I really enjoyed the Q400 flight last eve in P3D--it was clean, clear and crisp, but ultimately cartoonish by comparison. It's slowly but steadily dawning on me just how spectacular MSFS is, already. What's unreal is just how much stuff is going on in MSFS and yet performance is stellar. The visuals when I loaded the plane at KRNO at late dawn we really spectacular--like nothing in P3D. And the ground crew--pretty cool really, especially compared to the poor GSX guy who unfortunately limps because apparently one leg is shorter than the other. Lots of improvements to be made in MSFS for sure. The real magic started when I turned HT on: those long frames that were happening somewhat regularly in complex scenery disappeared completely, and there appears to be massive CPU headroom now, at least w/ the TBM930 which I'm coming to enjoy. And that plane is no slouch really in terms of what its doing, yet performs beautifully. The RTX 2070 Super is decent but I will def be looking at RTX 3080 or better depending on VRAM amounts. September 10, 20205 yr First. Very sorry about the fires. tragic situation. However wanted to point out that you published this thread in a P3D forum. Not an MSFS one. Don't you think people around this forum are sick and tired of hearing how great MSFS is? As an airliner guy, MSFS isn't good enough. Time will tell. It's pretty though. Totally agree. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

I'm just recently becoming aware of just how good MSFS is, and will share it wherever I feel like doing so because this venue is a place to share impressions whatever they may be. I feel this is WAY MORE than pretty--it's as real as it gets, finally. It is fundamentally different, and very positively so, to fly thru what amounts to the closest thing to a real world. It was startling to fly into KCIC just a moment ago and see the entire area I spent 40y of my life in. This is far different from flying thru artists' renderings we get in the other sims. I'm an airliner guy as well and always have been, but this is gearing up to be a game changer. For now I'll be in both sims they are both fabulous at what they do best. Hardly...Asobo and MS have a long way to go before we can claim that. Even P3D far surpasses MSFS when it comes to study level simulation. The scenery environment my friend, not the entire package or its lack of study level simulation--that is all I was referring to and the rest of the commentary in that post basically supported that, not as I say the entire simulation package of which P3D has vastly more depth of course. I would echo the sentiments of others that people in the P3D forum really, really don’t want to be continually trolled by MSFS fans. The P3D sub is for discussing that sim, the MSFS sub is where posts about that platform go. I’m very surprised that you’re doubling down rather than understanding this basic concept. I am very happy that the mods have moved this thread, though it unfortunately still shows up at the top of the P3D forum! It isn't a case of keeping them' sterile'. It's a case of keepjng posts in the most relevant sub-forum. But since you seem to dislike how things are done check a post coming your way very soon. Nearly choked on my brew there Depending upon the meaning of sterile I don't think many AVSIM members are that, in thought or language! Noel, please don't be sad. The forum structure is not so much there for protection or for defence, it's to do with being organised - you can clearly see the amount of sub forums present on here and another flight sim just adds to the mix. One doesn't (or rather one did not, before the advent of broadband internet) visit a library where ALL the books are organised in alphabetical order: One doesn't find Sherlock Homes (fiction) on the same shelf as Sheep (a factual book about the history of sheep and domestication by humans) - they are split into genres. We can all meet up in Hangar Chat to mix the genres as it were.
