September 11, 20205 yr I find it hard to taxi at night because even with all lights on, seeing the ground and the yellow line in front of the aircraft is very difficult. On this screenshot, I turned on the taxi and landing lights of my Beechcraft King Air, in exterior view it is perfect. The ground is clearly visible and the yellow line easy to follow: The problem is that it is completely different from the interior view. From the cockpit, no lighting is visible and the yellow line is almost invisible: Did I do something wrong or can it be considered as a bug? Thanks for your help. My Web Site
September 11, 20205 yr I downloaded a mod that fixed this, I think has since been taken down as it was only intended to make the strobes volumetric, and lights better on one specific aircraft rather than the whole game. Needless to say that was a welcome mistake. My point is that it’s at least fixable. Edited September 11, 20205 yr by UAL4life
September 11, 20205 yr It's a bug, in the sense that you can't see the ground at night. I'd like to see this problem addressed soon or at least a modification to fix this. September 11, 20205 yr I noticed it's not to bright last night. Have you tried raising your point of view and looking more downward? This at least allowed me to see directly at the front of the plane. James
September 11, 20205 yr go in fs effects folder find relevant light fx file and increase intensity. For A320 landing lights it's largelanding light file. Increase intensity at least to 500 (default 100). For strobes use doublestrobe file, to turn them volumetric find volumetric=0 change to 1 and increase intensity to at least 7 (default 1)
September 11, 20205 yr Thanks intheshadow, I'll try to figure this one out and will report back if I have any luck. September 11, 20205 yr Just now, RichieFly said: Thanks intheshadow, I'll try to figure this one out and will report back if I have any luck. you can test various lighting intensities and other stuff in real time. Enable developers mode, then in upper menu select user lights, enable which one you want and adjust numbers how you like. You cant save them, need to modify the files but at least you have idea what it will look like
September 11, 20205 yr Thanks. Come out of the shadow! We need you. Richard Chafey i7-8700K @4.8GHz - 32Gb @3200 - ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero - EVGA RTX3090 - 3840x2160 Res - KBSim Gunfighter - Thrustmaster Warthog dual throttles - Crosswind V3 pedals MSFS 2020, DCS
September 12, 20205 yr I experimented with this issue. I changed the Intensity value and the light is brighter, but the surface illumination isn't really affected as much as you might expect. My assumption is this is more a engine issue rather than absolute light intensity. There are many other values (very much like the free addon for P3D/FSX which, for the life of me, I can't recall the name of.) and I suspect that some shape the light cone and therefore, might lengthen the beam as it's represented on the surface. I'll leave it be for now. September 13, 20205 yr Been playing around with this and it does help alot to see the tarmac and yellow lines, but you need to be careful not to turn up the intensity too high because you'll be stuck with a soft volumetric white glow outside your front window which will hamper the coloring/clarity/contrast of what nite time is supposed to look like outside your window. I changed all the intensities for all the taxi light and landing light effects files and am currently experimenting with what I feel will end up being just the right amount without going too high. I think that less is more, in the end. The belly light files need to be set higher than the others...perhaps twice as high. Some planes use the regular taxi and landing light effect files, some use the belly ones, and some use the large ones. You can find out which plane uses which light effect file by looking in the plane's systems.cfg file and then you'll find the actual file to edit inside the fs-base-effects folder. September 13, 20205 yr I guess you can stop experimenting with the intensity values. That's not the problem, they might already be good. Check this new thread: The guy found a bug simply preventing the lights to show up from cockpit. He is on his way to provide community mods for several aircraft. Indeed, this look like being the perfect solution, I will look into this immediately. Thanks for letting me know !! My Web Site
September 13, 20205 yr It's the same type of fix as described above which is the effects files, their intensity and slight position changes...the only difference is that he renamed the files to something new and then pointed the aircraft to those newly named effect files...in this way you could attempt to adjust the lights more better for each specific plane instead of the default way which is to have several planes all sharing the same effect file. Either way it works though. He also turned off the volumetric lighting effects so that you can turn the intensity up alot more and make them super bright if you like...but then you lose the volumetric effect. He also changed the color of the strobes to look more like a zeon blue (which he probably shouldn't have done, IMO). But I'll give his a try to see which way i prefer it. Either way, I'd like to thank @intheshadow for posting about the effects file and how to mod it. I do alot of nite flying and it was really bothering me not to be able to see the tarmac at nite This little edit really helps alot!
