September 22, 20205 yr It seems like making changes to the flight_model.cfg for me, don't take effect until I restart the sim. In FSX/P3D, we can make changes on the fly and just reload the aircraft to quickly test them. Does anyone know if and how this can be accomplished with FS2020? Thanks!
September 22, 20205 yr It does seem to be that way. Any changes on the fly to anything other than the in-game UI require a restart. Pain in the *rse but there it is.

I believe you need to have a project open, but you can open one of the demo projects, then when you resync it will fully reload the selected simobject. Should allow on-the-fly adjustments of any of the CFG files. 5800X3D | Radeon RX 6900XT

I need to change my habits - I'm far to quick to presume a Reset is required.

I'm not sure if you're familiar, but there's also a really awesome tool developed by @dga711 here https://github.com/dga711/msfs-webui-devkit that let's you in realtime reload and debug JS and HTML gauges, so you can make adjustments on the fly and then reload the gauges. He's part of the Working Title team as well helping out with the CJ4 and G1000, but his tool is in wide use and, as far as I know, is one-of-a-kind and invaluable for working on panels. So, if you ever wade into tweaking gauges/panels, this is super helpful. 5800X3D | Radeon RX 6900XT
September 22, 20205 yr Fantastic. Thanks. At the moment I continue to concern myself with Flight Dynamics and that looks like a great resource. Edited September 22, 20205 yr by Will Fly For Cheese
September 22, 20205 yr Here is how you can instantly see your flight model edits on the fly without restarting the whole sim: It is as explained above but with some very important extra steps: 1. Turn on developer mode. 2. Pause the sim and do your tweak 3. Un-pause the sim. 4. Go to top dev mode menu and click "new project". Press ok. 5. Go to dev mode aircraft menu and click "Aircraft editor". You will now have two black strips with "project" and below that "aircraft" You do not need to "save" the project. It is open anyway. Now press the drop down arrow on "aircraft" and then press "resync". DO NOT MOVE ANYTHING until the aircraft is fully reloaded (or you might get a crash). 6. The aircraft reloads with your edits included. WARNING. Before flying in earnest after resync, first move your stick or yoke ailerons FULLY in both directions and watch the aircraft roll left and right. If you do not do this then the trim function is tied to the yoke or stick movements and the aircraft will act not as intended. Banking hard left or right disconnects this - it's a bug in the dev mode logic. It might also be a good thing to FULLY push and pull the yoke/stick to properly initialise the pitch function. This ensures that your controller is properly calibrated as intended. This saves you around five minutes for each tweak as you'd have to wait that long to restart the sim and reload the flight. I've done hundreds of edits in this manner and it has saved me many hours. November 9, 20205 yr Not to sidetrack the topic, but can something similar be done for scenery editing? Ie, I modify a scenery project, and put the output in the community folder? Is there a way to have the sim reload the community folder "on the fly"? Andreas Stangenes http://www.youtube.com/user/krsans78 Add me on gamertag: Bullhorns78
December 13, 20205 yr Hi All I made a GitHub Repository for flight_model.cfg files so we can share each others mods, https://github.com/MeaningOfLights/FS2020-flight_model.cfg-custom-files
December 20, 20205 yr I have a question regarding to MSFS .cfg fil. Is it possible to get original cfg file if I delete the current editied one (like old days in FS X FS 9) ? Or how can I find the original untouched MSFS CFG file ? I want to revert back to default one but I don't remember what I changed exactly. Kind regards. Faruk IŞIK
December 20, 20205 yr You can delete the aircraft folder in the official files and then re-download it in the content manager. James
