Rogue River Roundabout

I flew part if the route in 'The Other Sim' in real weather, which was foul. I struggled to find the third stop which is on the top of a ridge. "Ahah! Found you" as it appeared through the gloom. Only to run out of juice ans plummet into the hillside. *sigh*

I too, tried to do it in FS2020, but a lot of the airstrips seem to have disappeared.

But, if anybody wants to do a "SimulFly" in MSFS on Saturday anyway (no formalities, just show up), here's a few screenshots (to find your way in the new environment), and an updated flightplan that works in MSFS.

I will be there with a Grand Caravan, bringing supplies...

3 more out of the "paint booth".
This thing is really a "lightweight" but will fit the bill nicely - may get 136 fps out of this flight.. HA RIGHT
2 textures @ 1,366kb .. The .mdl file is only 1,907kb!
Tomorrows coffee will include Ted & anyone else who picks the Zenith for the flight.. Quite fun, each paint takes 5 minutes.. And it shows 😉
Quite possibly, for the first time ever, I can turn off aircraft labels for the whole flight. ))

Zane Grey and Winkle Bar

Zane Grey's cabin on the Rouge River at Winkle Bar has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In 1925, Grey launched an expedition down the Rogue River from Grants Pass to Gold Beach with nine other adventurers in seven wooden boats. Of the places Grey encountered on the trip, Winkle Bar proved to be the most influential. In 1926, he purchased the mining claim there and had this now-famous cabin built.

In Tales of Freshwater Fishing, Grey described his new acquisition: "The rushing river at this point makes a deep bend round a long oval bar, with rocky banks and high level terraces above, and both wooded and open land. Here it flows through a lonely valley set down amid the lofty green mountain slopes. A government forest trail winds out some 20 miles to the nearest settlement. Far indeed it is across the dark Oregon peaks to railroad or automobile road!" (From the AP and the Mail Tribune)

While living here along the Rogue River, Grey wrote a number of books including Rogue River Feud and Shooting the Rogue. The writing made the Rogue famous and it drew thousands of visitors to enjoy its steelhead fishing and wild natural environment. After a couple of years, however, Grey lost his enthusiasm and returned to living in Los Angeles. (In the 1930s, he came back to Oregon's more remote Umpqua River and its unspoiled atmosphere.)

For more, see Rogue River Feud (photos) and Firefighters Save Zane Gray's Cabin and Romancing the Rogue.

[BTW. Satellite photos show that the Zane Grey cabin and the associated private grass airstrip are located just north, across the Rouge from the sand bar on which Orbx places Winkle Bar (OR74). The Orbx location is more fun.]

I gave it the old college try. The Zenith is for P3Dv4.5. I tried it with both the high and low resolution textures but it would not appear in the P3Dv3. So it is back to Old Yeller, the A2A piper cub, unless I find a more appealing paint for it.

Not the last item, they're P3Dv4s

Real weather in the area today looks a bit murky.  If you'd like a sunnier, clearer experience there is good weather to be had on 26th August 2020, 2000 UTC.

Some screenshots are here of this excellent flight.. Thanks again Nick... - AWESOME! 👍

Had a couple of problems with JoinFS and it's subs, other than the plainly obvious, 😂 here are the other subs as reference:
Frank - Red/Wht Super Cub. (N8050C)
Josh - at first in a Camo colored Super Cub, later in the same livery as Norm 👎
Norm - Wht/Red Super Cub (N2020FR)
Roger - 1st part of the flight in CH701 "N-TEDS" (Blue, Red, Gold)👎 the second half in his proper colors & reg, "G-ROGR"  (Green, Red, White) 👍

Thanks for the pics Roman, enjoyed looking through those 👍

Fun flight and great shots. I'm glad you got a shot of Monroe Cub's good side Roman. 😃

After the flight I went back and kept practicing on that sand bar landing until I got it.

It was all right I suppose. Pictures weren't bad either. *Sniff*
