What you need to bear in mind is that lots of airports you are used to flying an airliner into, are happy to let airliners do that, but less inclined to be thrilled at slower GA aircraft clogging up their approaches by coming in at 65 knots with a bunch of airliners backed up behind them because they have to come in at twice that speed. Then there's the landing fees and ramp fees too.

So whilst it is not impossible, nor completely unrealistic to land a GA aeroplane at a major airport, it isn't always common at many major airports. Ironically however, at the moment it is actually a bit more possible than it would normally be, since with the pandemic causing reduced traffic into a lot of airports, quite a few big airports are less inclined to discourage it. In fact we are seeing some GA flyers able to tick their 'bucket list' of airports they can fly into with a GA aeroplane, particularly in Europe, since the EU has just extended its waiver on airliners having to fly ghost flights in order to not lose their slots.

The strange thing it seems much more possible in the US to fly into LAX and other big airports than it is to fly into YMML or Yssy.

Me anytime I'm admiring the scenery ....errrrr.....scanning for traffic...yeah...that's what I meant!

And.....mapping some AP keys to your HOTAS means you can ....uhhh....scan for traffic from external views while snapping pics like this:

(And yes...I can't scan for traffic and hand-fly at the same time....Its my problem and I'm in therapy for it...leave me alone) 🤣

I believe that in PPL tests in Australia it is considered a good thing to use the AP when doing other tasks whilst when I did my Checkride many years ago it would have been an instant fail

Me in IFR condtions.

IFR is the most fun  when hand flown! In fact, instrument flying is  one of few skills that can be transferred to real life!

Instrument scan, instrument cross check and instrument interpretation ! Go SkyHawk ! 🙂

Regardless of whether it does or not, I don’t recommend using it. Sucks the fun out of flying GA airplanes.

I don't tell other what "Fun" is or how to operate their aircraft. Maybe it's "Fun" for me to engage the autopilot.

Be kinda cool if that 3 letter company made a replacement for these G2K and 3K of course along with GTN's. The 2k and 3K are kinda growing on me with their touch screen capabilities.

I'm with ya....but as much as I'm getting used to the G1&3ks....the GTN 750 is hands down (IMO) the easiest and most feature-packed avionics hardware that has ever been made.

Now...if they could just get the keypads on the 1000/3000 working where you didn't have to turn dials forever to "type in" a fix, freq, airport, etc....then they'd even be more appealing to me. 🙂

Fair enough.

Objectively, it removes much complexity from flying the airplane because you are letting a computer fly the airplane for you.

I believe that they are Steve or for the most part, touch screens. Quite sure. But I dont know nothing cause I use autopilot on a C152. 🙂

Out of curiosity, what’s the point of / fun in engaging the AP on the C152, especially in a simulator? Most 152s don’t even have autopilots & they are rarely used.

Not gonna argue that....but when you're trotting along at 110 and need to go a few hundred miles in pretty much a straight line, manipulating the control surfaces for a few hours just to keep her level...flat out deflates (hehe see what I did there?) the fun of flying IMO.

And...its the best tool to keep you safe in IFR flying.  If JFK Jr. had one (or used it if he did have one), he'd probably be alive today because the AP does not get spatial disorientation.

But TO/LANDING....flying low through canyons and stuff...hands on for sure! 😉

Recon I'm just...stupid?

That’s fair 🙂

Hmm? Just a legitimate question. To me that’d seem boring, so I’m curious about the appeal! Then again, everyone else I know thinks flying airplanes in a simulator is boring in itself so each to their own!

Are you finished. You won! Or are you looking for a fight? 🙂
