Does the real G1000 have VNAV/ILS features

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the actual G1000/G3000 have VNAV and ILS features? I would like to use it to set up a IFR flight in the C172 just like in a Boeing 777. Can it do a full flight form start to finish with automatic VNAV climbs and descents and be able to capture localizer and glideslope for ILS landings?

But of Course. Very intuitive in fact. No its no consequence but I just finished a flight XP 11 Hotstart TBM 930 Rnav appr. with Vnav. (More for descent). Those option are fully modeled. Now, Vnav coupled isn't always available on aircraft but it is at least an advisory.

I haven't done much GA flying. I've been flying primarily tubeliners most of the time. With the new MSFS I have been getting more into GA flying which is a bit new for me still.

Apologize then for jumping.  The avionics for GA in this new sim are in their infancy.  Or is that infamy?  Much to be desired.  And quality add on avionics and complete nav data have been available for previous flight simulators for well over 10 years.

Time for MSFS developers to partner closely with existing quality simulator based avionics developers.  Actually, given the timelines of this sims development it is way past time.  utterly embarrassing IMHO.

Since no one seems interested in answering let me give a short answer. VNAV doesnt work. ILS works and can tune in the correct freq for you when you are about to land.

Given the climb performance of the C172, I'd probably play with VNAV, etc in something with a bit more....oomph.  The TBM930 is nice.

My personal advice...don't fly GA like an airliner. Takes all the fun out of it 😉

Chris

What you need to bear in mind is that lots of airports you are used to flying an airliner into, are happy to let airliners do that, but less inclined to be thrilled at slower GA aircraft clogging up their approaches by coming in at 65 knots with a bunch of airliners backed up behind them because they have to come in at twice that speed. Then there's the landing fees and ramp fees too.

So whilst it is not impossible, nor completely unrealistic to land a GA aeroplane at a major airport, it isn't always common at many major airports. Ironically however, at the moment it is actually a bit more possible than it would normally be, since with the pandemic causing reduced traffic into a lot of airports, quite a few big airports are less inclined to discourage it. In fact we are seeing some GA flyers able to tick their 'bucket list' of airports they can fly into with a GA aeroplane, particularly in Europe, since the EU has just extended its waiver on airliners having to fly ghost flights in order to not lose their slots.

Besides, there are plenty very wonderful Executive airports that cater to GA/Corporate aircraft. And they are personal and user friendly.

You are mixing autopilot capabilities with PFD/MFD feature. Yes G1000/3000 has integrated VNAV and ILS. And no 172  autopilot will not be able performa full automation like 777. For starters, there is no autothrottle in 172, so you will have to adjust power manually. Of course autopilot will able to climb, descend, cruise and shoot approach in 172, but pilot will manage the power.

Of course I have a question, what kind of pilot is  using autopilot in 172? LOL

That 3-letter company could make default GA avionics all-but obsolete in MSFS 🙂  (me: broken record, you: I know right?)   🤣

Be kinda cool if that 3 letter company made a replacement for these G2K and 3K of course along with GTN's. The 2k and 3K are kinda growing on me with their touch screen capabilities.

Me anytime I'm admiring the scenery ....errrrr.....scanning for traffic...yeah...that's what I meant!

And.....mapping some AP keys to your HOTAS means you can ....uhhh....scan for traffic from external views while snapping pics like this:

(And yes...I can't scan for traffic and hand-fly at the same time....Its my problem and I'm in therapy for it...leave me alone) 🤣
