September 26, 20205 yr Ever wonder where the name cockpit came from? https://generalaviationnews.com/2020/09/21/why-is-the-cockpit-called-the-cockpit/?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=%5BThe+Pulse+of+Aviation%5D+Why+is+the+cockpit+called+the+cockpit%3F&utm_campaign=TPOA-20200922 Best CJ
September 26, 20205 yr That is a very good article IMHO! September 26, 20205 yr I'd think the term came from a seafaring origin too. The confusing thing about Flight Deck... Isn't that what aircraft carriers have on their topside as opposed to just a ..deck..?? September 26, 20205 yr Moderator Ah Mark, there you go being all "logical" again! Personally, I tend to think it was because in the early years all aviators were male, and they sat in a 'pit'... 😜 Fr. I would quote some here but some female gender parts aren't as acceptable as cock. But I will give it a try. P---- Pit and C--- Bucket to name a couple. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. September 27, 20205 yr The FAA can regulate as much as they like, but calling the internal accommodations of something like a Piper Cub a "Flight Deck" is as pretentious as calling your car's driver seat "The Command Bridge".

I have all these up and down and left and right buttons on a switch on my steering wheel and most of them I have no idea what they are for when they popup an icon on the dash. And all I know how to do on the 11 inch touch screen is use the GPS. But I do know how to make it go and stop. BTW...The car is a year old this month. Toyota e-mailed me a 1 year service notification. I got it serviced last week. Seems like a waste since I only have 1300 miles on it. Sequestered in your house and no place to go doesn't make for adding mileage to your car. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
