Are all the G1000 Community Mods rolled into one?

Featured Replies

If not, we need to impress upon these teams that although we greatly appreciate any and all fixes and additions we are aware that some toes can get stepped on when working independently and the final goal of improvement might actually be in jeopardy.  Even worse, important items can get dropped in the crack when one team might be expecting the other team or teams to pick up the ball and some important items get overlooked.

I have read some of the recent posts where the ever growing Working Title Team is becoming an umbrella, of sorts, with only remotely related projects coming together to ensure more commonality in the code structure and to share discoveries and concepts.  Examples are the CJ4 and G1000 Teams and at least one of the Lighting Mods.

I think it would be totally outstanding if this all-in-one or almost all-in-one Master Mod Group could continue.  Maybe it breaks down to Airliners and General Aviation and any toss-ups go to wherever they can do the most good.

I am personally most interested in the continuation of the Lighting guys joining the Panel guys and it doesn't really matter whether it is the G1000 or G3000 and eventually the G5000.  I'm sure there are more similarities than there are differences in the Panels.  The G3000 Enhancement Mod was done by a single individual and this has outstanding promise should it continue.

I am still finding dark cockpits, not necessarily panels or instruments, but, entire cockpits and glareshields that are dark in the daylight.  Obviously, this is not very high on the Asobo todo list as they seem to be off in other directions.  Tonight for the first time I was able to experience the G1000 mod work that is adding the new and innovative engine functions and features. This will be especially welcomed by the new G36 Bonanza Turbo flyers (version 2 is already in work). We have a lot of the GA aircraft with similar but different Glass Panels and they all seem to have a different approach to the overall and individual Lighting schemes.

Of course, the lighting is not restricted to the cockpit, some outstanding improvements are being made with runway and taxiway lights and strobe and even the old red beacon is being improved. I hope this continues to mature.

The avionics, especially the Autopilots and default GPS/GNS units can probably keep a couple of teams busy for a long, long time.  Most of these units are rated near the pathetic side of the scale at present. Recent font changes and a few function improvements are in work, there is a long way to go with these units.

So, all I am asking is that if we can streamline this constant flow of Mods into some sort of organized release and installation order, it would be greatly appreciated.  This should also make it easier for the user community to request changes and updates and call attention to problem areas.

Regards,

Ray

yeah, that probably is never going to happen, but you never know.

Yep, but that is the neat thing about daydreaming.

Ray,

It is definitely our desire to minimize overlap and incorporate as many features as is practicable into our mods for exactly the reasons you've outlined. It is worth noting that the G3000 Enhanced Mod by @aznricepuff is now almost completely merged into the Working Title 'umbrella' as you put it (aznricepuff has teamed up with us to do this). This has already started discussions amongst our team about expanding this work to include the Longitude as well, and we've been hard at work isolating files and code changes to eliminate conflicts with other aircraft and mods.

At the same time, we're also working in partnership with Bush League Legends on the G3X, as well as with the creators of quite a handful of GA aircraft-specific mods, like the Diamond, the Bonanza and others.

There will be some cool Garmin updates coming soon for the G1000, G3000 and G3X 👍

Usability and interoperability are top-of-mind for us - and to that end we have been, and will continue, to encourage mod developers to connect with us. @kaosfere has taken the time to do several tutorial/informational posts advising mod developers how to make their mods not interfere with other mods, and even has demo'd that by "fixing" a mod that did interfere so that it didn't as an example. We saw just this morning that the FlyByWire team made an update to their mod that addresses a problem created in other aircraft because of a shared file they edited that negatively impacted other aircraft. As mod developers get more familiar with the MSFS ecosystem and gain more experience, it will be easier and easier to avoid conflicts - this is a learning curve for us as well - even just this week we were pointed to a conflict between the G3X and the CJ4 - both mods we're working on - and one small conflict went unnoticed by us.

I don't think all mods will ever be compatible, and I certainly don't want to suggest that every mod should be part of our 'umbrella' - we're just like everyone else - trying to bring some cool new features and capabilities to this awesome (but incomplete) new sim. In the end, the users will determine what mods are most valuable and will focus on those - and users of mods can certainly encourage mod developers to make their mods as lightweight, interoperable and independent as possible. I suspect that in the long run, mods that cause problems or conflicts will quickly fall out of favor...

And of course, we welcome contributions - I am endlessly appreciative of all the talented people that have contributed to the Working Title repo so far and we continue to encourage participation - this is an open source project! There's way to much to do for any one person...

Anyhow, I appreciate your thoughts and certainly our team agrees with your sentiment - but a little chaos always comes along with open source game mods - that's what keeps it exciting, lol 😉

There is only 1 G1000 mod that I am aware of that is being maintained right now, the one by Working Title. I think all the folks working on the G1000 merged their efforts there.

I've seen enhancement projects for the G3000 and G3X but I have mostly held off on those to avoid breaking the G1000, until there are versions that are stated to be compatible with each other.

Anyone looking at the TheFrett G36 mod for grouping or inclusion?

Thanks Chris for this excellent overview and explanation of scope and effort.  We are all sooooo very appreciative of all of these team members and their creative and innovative talents.  As you so brilliantly stated - the users will decide the validity of the mods.

It's not the same thing, or developed by the same people.

The G1000 is broadly applicable across all the aircraft and the G36 Improved is a angle aircraft.

If you follow the development threads on the MSFS Forum though, you'll see that those two projects are closely coordinating, to the point that the G1000 project used the G36 as the first example of their new per-aircraft engine gauge pages.

(Disclaimer: I am just a user of both mods)

Is the GNS530 mod under the umbrella?

I'm not sure most folks realize the Robert Young G36 Turbo and the TheFrett G36 are two very different projects.  But, both are greatly improved by the G1000 mods.

Not sure if this is the place or thread to mention this but it does relate to the G1000 mod. Have been using this with the TBM930 since it was released with satisfactory results. Today for the first time, and since the recent MSFS patch, on approach into Bristol EGGD the speedo froze at 140 kts along with the altimeter which stuck at 2000 feet. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Yes.  I've had both speed and altitude freeze just as you.  I used the alternate guages above the PFD as my backup to finish the flight.

That's interesting Larry and thank you for your response to my post. Has this just started to happen since the recent patch or have you had it before?

I thought the TMB 930 used the G3000; is there an option to use the G1000 with this a/c, or am I just confused. 😃
