Savage Carbon: a new STOL champion

What I love about it is that below 5000RPM (I habitually take off at less at lower weighs) it’s docile like my old 7AC. There’s NO NEED for more in normal ops. When you wanna go crazy push the power forward and add lotsa drag and you have pin point flight path control.

Very happy with this one!

Full power pretty much makes it a mini Pitt Special 😄 2000 fpm climb and Immelmanns, split S, loops and barrel rolls are all a cinch. You can break it pretty easy exceeding Vne in a dive with full power though.

it is sort of important to remember this is  not based on a real world aircraft, it is absolutely a fantasy "what if" mod through and through.

Who cares if it is not real world, it's fun and free! It's an Experimental Aircraft 🙂

Outrageous fun. Totally agree.

Just do not expect to get up to circuit height in 35-40  seconds from a full stop in anything you find parked at your local airfield 😄

Since it seems to be the season of updates... guess who's getting one too?  Look carefully at this photo to figure out some of the work afoot... If you haven't picked up this one already, treat yourself.

Then tell Asobo there's still work to do on the vegetation 🙂

@Got Gravel has been working HARD to bring you some incredible improvements to this aeroplane... I can't spoil the surprise, but he's moving the Goal Posts...

I know we moan about the critical shortcomings in this Sim... but sometimes it just works...

A seriously quick circuit in the Savage Cub ...

Hehe, nice.   One of my favorite silly games in this thing (which is also good practice) is to see how many full takeoffs and landings I can do in the length of a runway at a major airport.

Can a real Savage Cub do this?   Or was this type of maneuver reserved for something like Draco (RIP)?

The Savage Carbon mod is definitely not a standard Savage Cub.

Could Draco even do that?   (i.e. stand on its tail from a STOL takeoff, do a flip, and land on almost the same spot)

No idea.

I think the loop bit is possible as you just need to get enough airspeed on takeoff roll before rotating to climb vertically for a bit to get some runway clearance, I suspect the tricky bit would be dumping enough airspeed for the landing. Stage 3 flaps on the Savage Carbon mod behave a bit like the barn door 40 degree flaps on the old 152s.

Hey guys! Gravel here, creator of the Savage Carbon. And hi Kaos and Carl! Good to see you two gentlemen here ;-)

Interesting question...can a real cub do this? Not a factory standard one. But...the Savage Carbon only contains mods that are available in the real world too. 165HP engine from Edge Performance? Check. STOL optimized 82" prop? Check. 29" Bushwheels? You get the idea.

So even though this aircraft is truckloads of fun, I strive above all to let it be a realistic bush plane. This is verified all the time by two seasoned test pilots (Carl being one of them).

So yeah, you should be able to pull this move. Absolutely not recommended, discouraged even, in real life of course!

The next release v1.1.1 is incoming, will add water skiing to the mix...bring out your fishing gear!

On the Draco question (RIP...but Mike has just started on DracoX), I have no doubt she could have done this.
