November 17, 200619 yr I have had TrackIR now for about six weeks and I guess I must be the odd one out because I don't share the enthusiasm of it appears everyone else who has bought this addon. I have done all the tweaking but I still find the exeperience very hard on my eyes. One thing that has helped a bit is to program a button on my CH Yoke as the TrackIR enable/disable switch. That does make it much easier to move about a VC and operate knobs and switches and to relax the eyes. It also helps with landing in a nose up attitude as you can easily raise your viewpoint over the aircraft nose, turn off TrackIR, thus freezing a clear view of the runway. I still use TrackIR on most flights but I find I just can't use it 100% of the time. The TrackIR unit is also very senstive to stray light sources so there are times of the day when sunlight coming through a skylight makes it impossible to use in the room where I have my PC.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." November 17, 200619 yr I just got mine today, too, and wow - I am impressed. Setup was simple (ran the downloaded installer), chose my profile, centred the head readout thingy and off I went. Much more convenient than using my joystick hat to pan and *much* smoother. I think my joystick hat was being polled at a very low rate, resulting in stutters on pan (whereas I didn't get this with the mouse/spacebar combo) and, happily, I have found that TrackIR4 pans very smoothly, too.Really looking forward to using this for a full flight. Great piece of hardware.Triangle
November 17, 200619 yr Add me to the list of fans. Have been a user since the original TIR 1 and used it with my other flying sim...IL2. I know have the TIR3Pro with vector clip. I simply won't buy or use a sim that doesn't support it. I'd rather fly with TIR and keyboard then fly with joystick and no TIR. The two things it does for me is 1) removes the feeling that I'm viewing the world through a cardboard box, 2) I no longer *think* about views. I just look.
November 17, 200619 yr I have the version before the latest. I guess that is v3. So can anyone give me a good reason to upgrade?ThanksBob
November 17, 200619 yr You can take a look at this....... ;)http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/02-pro...comparison.html
November 17, 200619 yr I've read and heard a lot of good things about this product (plus saw it in action at the AVSIM Conference) and decided to bite the bullet and just ordered the TrackIR 4 Pro. Looks like a lot of fun!Jim
November 17, 200619 yr You will love it. Besides the quick trouble free setup, I also assumed there would be a steep learning curve-there is not. I found after 1/2 hour of use it is completely natural. Hit f12 at startup and you are off!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 18, 200619 yr Bruceb<<<< TrackIR unit is also very senstive to stray light sources so there are times of the day when sunlight coming through a skylight makes it impossible to use in the room where I have my PC.>>>>I have the same problem but solve it by turning the sensora little and checking it with the view/tracking tab. As long as only 3 spots appear, the stray light won't affect the sensor. If stray light is hitting it, you'll see another splotch on the sensor. Just turn it some more until only the 3 dots appear.
November 19, 200619 yr I'm a supporter of this product but I'm not terribly thrilled with the driver quality as of late. There is a known problem with the alpha 3 drivers (required for FSX retail) that is affecting me and a number of others. The issue was reported several weeks ago and there hasn't been any news on a fix yet.If people are using the TrackIR in FSX without problems that's great, but my personal recommendation is to hold off on purchasing until the next driver version is released.
November 20, 200619 yr The problem that I had with the 3 was that it had a rather limited range of motion. If I wanted to move my head around, often, I would move out of range before I got to where I wanted to look. The 4 has a HUGE range of motion compared to the 3. No more problems with range of motion.I also find that it seems more responsive as well, somewhat smoother. You may or may not notice the difference. Finally, I had a heck of a time getting the 3 to stay on my laptop screen after I lost the little clippy thing I had to glue on the back of the screen. The 4 is much easier to mount. It's base is very configurable and able to fit a wide range of different monitor types.I've had both versions, and am very happy I upgraded.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
November 20, 200619 yr I've been testing the newest version of the software all day, and it should be posted soon.

November 20, 200619 yr What's the problem you are experiencing? I've been using the TrackIR alpha 3 drivers with FSX beta 3 with no issues at all. Actually, there is one small issue in that the outside view gets panned by TrackIR instead of the hat switch ala FS9, but I'm sure that's just a setting I need to tweak.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
November 21, 200619 yr One of the new features of FSX is the expansion of TrackIR into the different view modes. You still have use of the TrackIR in the "Virtual Cockpit" mode, with full 6 DOF support, but this has also been expanded to the other views as well. As always, to disable the TrackIR rotation in the different view modes, just press the F9 key (default) to pause the TrackIR software. "2D Cockpit" mode - TrackIR has support for head movement in both the Yaw and Pitch axes.Outside View: Tail

Doh, never thought of anything that obvious and simple! Mine's mapped to button 1 on my CH yoke so that I can stop the screen swaying with delicate VC work like the MCP panel on the LDS 767 (especially that stinkin' autothrottle arm switch, which has a hotspot about 1 x 1 pixel wide!).Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
