P3D v5.1 vs v4.5??

Featured Replies

I'm considering coming back to P3D v4.5 for awhile as MSFS is still sorting itself out & there aren't any radials yet.

Miss the sound.😀

Anyway, everything I fly in P3D is working ok in v4.5.

My question is, if I go to v5.1, is it worth it - will there be noticeable improvements in scenery or sim performance, & are there aircraft that fly in v4.5, but not v5.1??

There must be countless discussions on this topic..

Do a search and you will get lots of opinions 🙂

My advice:  If you are happy with 4.5,  stay there, especially if this is a temporary solution.

On the other hand... if you like to fiddle with new stuff.. go for it!

Is there a nutshell summary anywhere that lists what v5.1 has, that v4.5 doesn't??

It uses DX12 which gives you better (smoother) performance, if you have a good video card, and it offers TrueSky visuals which I quite like.  If you like the MSFS look, 5.1. should appeal to you as well..

Interesting... I have just about had it with MSFS at the moment and am thinking about getting 5.1.  Do you need Orbx Vector and all of the other stuff or is the 5.1 terrain, vector data, etc. similar to MSFS?

I used vector in V4.5, but elected to not install it in V5.  I found it unnecessary for the type of flying I do.  Improvements were made to make parts of vector redundant.  Some parts not though.  The rest of the orbx stuff I would recommend however.

5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW  and 2  22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU,  360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next

Is the orbx stuff a free upgrade?

You do not need ORBX Vector as LM finally updated all of that data...in fact I think ORBX said the LM data is better than the ORBX Vector data which is why they did not update it for V5.

So far I've found I need to by a new subscription to get to v5.

Not sure how DX12 impacts the Aircraft.

Would each one need to be updated for v5 by the manufacturer & then reinstalled by me?

Updated, no..  Reinstalled, yes.  For most aircraft..

Some can just be copied over.
