December 12, 20205 yr Greetings, If anyone has done this could you share the proper procedure that you followed and how it worked out for you. I just don't want to screw anything up that'll cause a problem re-installing and getting airborne again. I'll never be accused of being the sharpest knife in the drawer with this stuff. Mine has been crapped out for quite a few days now. Still not able to start. I do no think the situation is going to be resolved. Many thanks to all who took the time to send suggestions my way. Thanks. Dave
December 12, 20205 yr start menu -> settings -> apps -> Microsoft Flight Simulator OPTION 1. Click advanced options and either "Repair" or "Reset" OPTION2 You could just uninstall
December 12, 20205 yr Dave, The most important thing is to COPY or Back up your community folder to another drive. THEN you can uninstall. redownload and re install. After this, you move the Community folder back into the proper place. This procedure is particularly important for your community modded aiorcraft ie FBW320, Rob Youngs G36 Bonanza, WorkingTitle G1000/G3000 mods and various other modded aircraft or utilities you may own. Please note that I generally have to reinstall the community mods although some people have reported that just copying over the Community folder is sufficient. In my case, I have a drive dedicated to MSFS addons and I delete the mods in the restored Community folder and then reinstall from my Mods folder on another drive. All my reinstalls (3 now have all gone well with no problems doing it this way. I really hope that this explanation works for you, but if you have any problems please just PM me or get back via this topic which I will now follow. Regards Tony Tony Chilcott. My System. December 12, 20205 yr Author Hi Tony, Thanks for your kind offer to help. I will take you up on it. I chose the reset and msfs is still present on my drive and in the "MS Start" section that shows up when clicking on the bottom left MS icon. When clicking on the start as administrator it now takes me to a generic MS page. What happened was my shortcut has been removed and MSFS has been removed from my APPS selection accessible as Glen mentioned above. When I clicked on reset a check mark appeared there but nothing much else seems to have happened..... Am I missing something here? PM sent. Edited December 12, 20205 yr by dbw1 additional info
December 12, 20205 yr I had the same problem and solved it by (as others have mentioned): Saving Community folder Reset MSFS from Apps program in Windows Apps - this resulted in an (almost complete) reinstall of MSFS2020 - Community folder deleted, some setup items ( controls, etc.) remaining. Copy folders from saved Community folder back into MSFS Everything worked great - even installation of MSFS Home Page seemed to go faster !!😀 Dave Hinson Edited December 12, 20205 yr by DaveH addition of one word David Hinson
December 12, 20205 yr Author Reset applied and redownloading now. Glad to hear it worked well for you! Dave
December 12, 20205 yr Moderator I have to do it every time there is an update - still working on why but it's simple - I use MSFS Addon manager so all by Community folder entries are elsewhere Settings/Apps - MSFS - uninstall when that's done - MS Store - MSFS and install after install go to content manager and update everything Orbx central and sync sim to put all their entries back Flightbeam control panel to put their entries back Whole exercise takes about 1.5 hours Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
December 12, 20205 yr Dave, I know that the download and install can take a very long time depending on internet connection and speed. I have never gone the "reset" route and have always gone via full uninstall. I do this mainly because I have tried many times to "repair" Windows and it has never, ever been satisfactory. However, many will disagree with that statement and so be it. Let us know if your reset works and you are a happy simmer again mate. Regards Tony Tony Chilcott. My System. Motherboard. December 13, 20205 yr Author 24+ hours and I have it downloaded. I bought the premium deluxe however....... with this new "reset" version I have only 2 aircraft (TBM&SE Cessna), no access to live weather, live traffic absolute basic scenery..as if it is not accessing the internet for live weather, real world traffic and Bing scenery. It is almost as if the reset selected the most basic version. Oh, also no access to market place. Well I am stumped. I guess this time I do a complete removal and reinstall staying far away from reset. Dave
December 13, 20205 yr Check in Content Manager under Profile from main menu. Everything should be there to download.
December 13, 20205 yr Yes, I suppose a complete reinstall would be better. I did the reset because I thought it would be simpler and quicker, and the fact that my problem was that I could not get a complete start-up of the program. I don't know if it caused my problem, but the last things I remember adding to the Community folder were those copilots for the aircraft. And I thought it would keep all my other files (and it did keep everything except the Community folder (why only that one I cannot figure out). I think all the replies to this post are helpful in the future. Dave Hinson David Hinson
December 13, 20205 yr Author The only thing present in my content manager are the two aircraft - SE Cessna and the TBM. otherwise it is empty No access to live weather, market place, live traffic. I think this reset, all 24 hours of it, was scr@wed by the MSFS program somehow.
December 13, 20205 yr Author Can make no headway. Referring to the purchase page comparing the included items such as included aircraft for each level of purchase indicates that even the lowest cost version should have more than two aircraft included. I did the uninstall process which removed something but not the 100+ gigs of msfs from my drive. Could not find out whey so i right clicked delete and blew it off that way. The lack of easily accessible documentation to find your way around this sim for basic procedures is disgusting. Not all of us are IT specialists, programmers etc. Now to figure out the next step.

I feel your pain. I had the exact problem you are having. Unfortunately, not even a call to Microsoft helped. It was after a windows re install and logging out of Microsoft store and logging back in twice that the download finally worked. I pray you don't have to go through all that. As you can imagine all that took about a week of tinkering. Each download was 12hours. Since that I saw a post over at the MSFS forums dealing with something similar that was fixed though the windows store. (I cant recall the forum topic, a google search might help). All the best. Robin
December 13, 20205 yr I uninstalled MSFS yesterday, as said earlier just make sure the community folder contents are moved to a different folder, and just go to the windows start icon type Microsoft Flight Simulator and click the uninstall icon, about 12 hours later everything is running even better than before. Plus I've got MSFS in a more simplified file structure than my earlier install simply because I know how MSFS handles than when it first released.
