KV2 -- Kneeboard Viewer 2

Featured Replies

In case some may find it helpful, I am posting this in response to a discussion on another thread having to do with the desire to view files 'on top' of MSFS when flying.

Kneeboard Viewer 2 (KV2) is a small program that allows the user to open one or two ‘on-top-windows’ to view programs of choice, such as a web page like SkyVector, or a pdf reader with tabs for multiple charts (SIDs, STARS, approach charts), in ‘kneeboard windows’ on top of FSX/P3D/X-Plane/MSFS. The kneeboard windows may be sized and positioned as desired, and will stay visible on top of FSX/P3D/X-Plane/MSFS while you fly, or may be toggled on and off (shown or hidden) by user selectable keys (or key combinations). The zip file below includes the KV2 program and documentation.

Can't say for sure since I have never used VR. However, if an open PDF reader or web page shows up in VR, then I would think it might work. If you try it, please post what you find out.

Thx,

Al

Can you prepare a download link that does not use Dropbox? Thanks.

Can we nest a Vpilot window within it and go full screen?

If you mean can you use KV2 to hide or display Vpilot with MSFS in full screen mode -- yes, just tried it.

Nice, I use to use PDFKneeboard back in FSX/P3D. So this also functions as a web browser as well? So not only can we view PDF files, but also access sites like Discord, YouTube, etc?

Here are a couple of pics showing how you might use the KV2 windows that you can toggle to remain on top of the MSFS display.

The first pic shows the LittleNav Map moving map in the KV2 'Window1'. The second pic shows how you can use a PDF reader, in this case PDFlite, in KV2 Window2 to hold both a STAR and Approach plate (and more if desired). To switch between the two you just need to click on the appropriate tab at the top of PDFlite.

These KV2 windows are moveable, resizable, and can be toggled on and off (shown or hidden), and will remain on top of the sim unless you hide them. There is a lot of flexibility, for example, you could also display a SkyVector chart by putting the SkyVector web page into one of the KV2 windows.

I have found KV2 to be useful, but of course, to each his own. It will require that you select KV2 control keys or key combinations that do not conflict with your operation of MSFS. Additionally, if you use something like FSUIPC7, you can arrange for button(s) on your controller to send the key strokes needed to toggle the KV2 windows.

Interesting that you should mention PDF Kneeboard. I wrote KV2 as an AutoHotkey programming exercise because I wanted something to replace PDF Kneeboard which does not work in P3Dv4 or P3Dv5.

To answer your question, yes, you can load YouTube or Discord into a KV2 window. However, you may run into a sound conflict with MSFS sound. The only way to know to what degree things will work would be to try it. However, I would not say KV2 functions as a web browser. Rather, it would be more accurate to say you can put your web browser into a KV2 window. Then you can hide or show on top of MSFS (or some other program for that matter) whatever web page your web browser happens to be on. The web browser will function within the KV2window.

Unfortunately this doesn't work in VR, just tried it yesterday with MSFS 2020. Hopefully somebody can come up with a solution to allow people to view documents (approach plates, charts, checklists, etc) in VR soon.

Already made one that also works in VR -
