I thought of DCS but not sure if I have the stomach to learn a new flight sim. The same reason I never went to X-Plane. 😞

Me either, have X-Plane , but only flew a few short flights.

Didn't find it compelling enough to learn it and my wallet couldn’t support add ons for two different sims...

FA-18 and Super Carrier are a big investment. Learning curve is steep. You almost have to learn to fly the L-39 first as a trainer before you even move up to a Fighter.

Problem for me is you snooze you loose. Last time I was in DCS was Nov 29 got over 200 hrs of flight time and still consider my self an novice at best.

Each weapon system is a steep learning curve and there are a handful of them on each platform

There is underlying code that would support an FA-18 that is new in the latest release. No plane yet, but they've added some infrastructure for it....

That’s always been my issue with DCS.  So much complexity not just in the aircraft themselves, but all of the combat systems as well...it’s just more than my brain can retain if I’m not constantly using them.  Then there’s another whole thing to learn about combat tactics and how to kill other things while they try to kill you.

For what it's worth the DCS F-14 by heatblur is an absolute masterpiece of a flight sim plane. It is way more analog than the super popular f-18 module, and requires stick and rudder coordination. Well worth the price to play, especially if you catch it on sale, which I believe it currently is.

Yes there are systems to learn, just like any "study level" add on. But super rewarding, especially in multiplayer if you and a bud can go pilot and rio on it. Amazing is the best word to describe it.

I fail to see why anybody would want to fly a dumbed down (buggy) military jet in MSFS when there is a whole world of Study Simulators available in a reasonable good quality flying environment already available in DCS

With Carrier Landings and Takeoffs they very few have mastered

I have DCS World.  But I hate to say it, the scenery and geographical data is just a step below MSFS.

If they made a decent combat simulator off of MSFS, I would play that any day over DCS World.

All the more reason to respect all the guys that do it for real. Relatively few people make it that level.

According to https://www.cwlemoine.com/military-pilot-faq/ it’s not rocket science and you don’t have to be an astronaut.

It takes perseverance, dedication and only normal mental and physical abilities.

What military pilots get is training, lots of it, more than any other aviator at a cost paid by taxpayers.

When C.W. Lemoine, tried out the F/A-18 in DCS with a pretty good home cockpit setup at a fan’s house, he was less than thrilled, and found it harder than real life:

So, just a reality check. Any human of average capacity with the drive to do it can with a little luck thrown in...

I respect what they do and that they’ll put their lives in harm’s way for the rest of us.

But they, just like all the other elite military groups, are made up of humans that put on their pants one leg at a time like the rest of us.
