Dusk and dawn effects in v4 already look pretty good on my PC with REX 4 Texture Direct Enhanced Edition installed. If "way better" actually means the atmospheric effects, then I am indeed satisfied with v4

The most important: if you have a 30 series graphics card than your framerate will go up. On both my systems with at least 20-25%...

I have configured everything to maintain the same framerate as V4 but now with almost every slider maxed out...

We asked for better performance with less load on the cpu and more on the gpu. We have that (DX12)...

I am curious. In what way does P3Dv5 look "way better" than P3Dv4?

Christopher, clearly u are negatively charged, so enjoy v4, this hobby is all about finding ur own 'drawer' and enjoy it 🙂

Wy question was not intended as a criticism. I have zero experience of P3Dv5, so I am genuinely curious as to what makes it look significantly better than P3Dv4. I assure you that I am in no way "negatively charged" regarding this

I disagree. He's asking reasonable questions about the benefits of v5 over a mature v4. I'm in the same boat. Normally I would have bought v5 by now but the issue of VRAM and weather control still leaves me sitting on the fence. I hardly ever fly at dawn / dusk preferring full daylight. I know fps will be higher in v5 but I have sensible settings plus a monitor than can run at 30Hz and with VSync the sim has never been smoother.

Maybe by the time v5.3 arrives and the sim has been tweaked it will become attractive to me. For now, I sit on the fence and read.

Ray, Vram is not an issue - i use A2A warbirds and my vram usage is never higher than 3GB.

Right now i fly with B17 and GPU memory is 2.5/5.1GB

@Beardyman, does that apply to all 3rd party aircraft? Does PMDG aircraft consume as little?

I have the PMDG737 for v4 which would have to be repurchased at full price if I switch to v5. And the Vertx Diamond DA-62 will not work in v5 without some tweaking which is unsupported. So there's a considerable financial outlay to go to v5, not just the cost of P3D itself.

I also have PMDG planes but not tried them yet, all about A2A. I would assume that PMDG will eat more vram, but have no clue how much. All i want to say is that v5 is not as hungry as people say, u do not need 10GB monster to run it. I have 1650 with only 6GB and A2A + FlyTampa + AI + Active Sky + EA - all work together nicely and without any crashes.

I see u have 11GB 1080Ti - in my opinion u have more than u need for v5, unless u go totally wild with settings 🙂

It can be an issue.

If you have True Earth Netherlands and Flytampa Amsterdam and you want to fly Aerosofts A320, you'll get on the limits of a 8GB GPU.

I managed to reduce the scenery and the clouds so far, I can fly into Amsterdam and stay there a while until the sim crashes, when calling GSX ground handling. Usually VRAM use starts at 4.6 with this plane and area and goes up to 6.1 of available 7.1. It doesn't even go up to 7.1 to crash. I guess it happens at 6.2 about.

I agree, everywhere else I don't have this problem so drasticly. But I never had 2.5. Usually start with 3.4, even in remote areas.

Does anyone know, when the 3090 GPU will be available again, presumably? I know it's out but they can't produce enough. Why? Did a factory burn down, are the workers at home because of Corona?

Can´t you order in germany by CaseKing? They have several models (5 or 6 different)  in stock for weeks now. No issues getting one here. I bought mine there to 2 months ago. The cheapest costs EUR 1839,- today

I would call them if I where you. They are very customer friendly!

And they ship to outside germany too:

Is that @ 1080p resolution?

I have an aircraft that is very heavy on VRAM. Xtreme Prototypes Lear 25. It's the only aircraft that gives me problems of severe stuttering at ORBX Bilbao. It's a combination of that aircraft, Bilbao, Dynamic Lighting and 4K that causes t he GPU to hit 100% and needs more resources than is available. The developers have been unable to confirm as none run at 4K. It eats in excess of 4Gb without DL enabled so that would give me greater concern than PMDG which are far less demanding of VRAM.

Your A2A aircraft is pretty simple in panel design aren't they?

I fully agree on your and @Christopher Low statement/questions and it is really understandable.

I`ll keep it short:

  • If you are satisfied with the performance in v4 - stay at v4
  • If you WANT TrueSky and Vol-Clouds is a must have for you - v5 is a must
  • If you are "restricted" by 8GB VRAM but want TrueSky - stay at v4. EA is somehow more VRAM hungry and EA is ONLY working with HDR ON.

I was on v4 too. And v4 is a very stable version and brought me lots of joy.

I need FPS for VR and Vol-Clouds for VR (rotating 2d isn´t nice in VR), so therefore I bought v5

Enjoy v4! But I would be happy to welcome everyone on v5 too! But to be honest.....it costs money and is not for free. You really have to think about if it is worth it.

V5 with EA on. This is way beyond V4, which I had tuned to my personal taste. This looks very realistic to me ...

Yep, steam gauges :-).

In v5 u can set profiles, so u can have different settings for different planes/demands.

If ur fav is Lear which is so hungry then maybe really v5 is not ready for such planes.
