Current Honeycomb Support Level?

Featured Replies

I jumped in when FS2020 launched, but then decided to let the product stabilize a bit. A small part of the reason for that was the status of the Honeycomb products not really being fully supported correctly in the sim. I'm wondering, now that nearly five months have gone by, if or when these issues will be resovled.

Honeycomb, at one point, noted that they were going to be announcing some major partnership with MS, but then got quiet. Sure, they're a partner, but to what end? Even the image in the game for the Alpha is wrong. The was the 10-degree bug forcing us to choose to live with it or disable otherwise good buttons and more.

So now that my Bravo arrived, I'm thinking about getting back in and wondering what the current state is.

I'm also wondering if we can get around much of this with FSUIPC. Is there a good thread on settings in FSUIPC specifically for the Honeycomb products (like getting the reversers to work)? Or is everything just working now and I overlooked the fixes.

Thanks!

There are apparently work arounds using external applications. But no. There has been no fix for the issues with “always on” switches like used in the Honeycomb products ... despite the partnership, whatever that means.

Are you referring to FSUIPC and, if so, any links to threads from anyone on where this is being discussed?

No, some other app. vjoy or something like that...not sure if it is free or pay. Someone who has done it will chime in shortly, I'm sure. I'm not messing with it until I get my Bravo in.

I got my honeycomb quadrant two days ago and it works flawlessly with FS2020, no problems whatsoever. First thing I did was download the software file from Aerosoft, its mega!!

I don't have the Honeycomb hardware, but as far as I am aware if you map any of the 'ON/ON' toggle switches that send a constant binding to the simulator, your heading bug only rotates 10 deg and the altitude only increments 1000ft.  I was watching a youtube video of someone testing a Bravo with the sim the other day and it still displayed this behavior.  If those switches are un-mapped, the knobs work as expected.

Two fixes I have seen people mention:

  • FSUIPC (paid)
  • Joystick Gremlin + vJoy (free)

Yup, Vjoy works perfectly with the bravo and alpha, I have it setup perfectly.

I’ve got all buttons working with my Alpha & Bravo controllers using the free vJoy + Joystick Gremlin solution

I’ve posted my profiles <here>

A couple of long time aftermarket developers here, of products other than flight controls, have clearly stated that a 10° HDG and CRS  issue has been around since FS9 and required their workarounds.  One of those is Reality XP.   Just saying...  And most of us have learned that tuning with 1° increments versus 10° is possible with respective mouse actions.  Mouse wheel vs mouse buttons.  I do not consider this to be a Honeycomb issue.

I received my Bravo two days ago and after a learning curve have it nicely dialed in for FSX SE.  I intended to do the same today with MSFS but got sidetracked by a new and unanticipated issue with MSFS Baron G58 liveries.  All my addon G58 liveries are now showing as plain white, like a paint kit.  Perhaps tomorrow.

I have flown two separate two hour flights with the Alpha and Bravo combo in FSX SE and am loving it.  The issues I had to fight through in implementation were overlaps between the Honeycomb configurator, FSX SE settings, and FSUIPC.  Once I categorically cleared out those overlaps life became bliss.

With the Bravo it impacts the built-in AP control knobs on the Bravo....  It's silly to expect people to use the knob for the 10deg/1000ft increments and the mouse for the 1deg/100ft increments.

Honeycomb should just build the fix into their 'connector' utility which already reads SimConnect variables and uses the result to set the landing gear light status, so 80% of the code is there to read a switch position and write to SimConnect variable.  Instead they have chosen to be obstinate and leave it to their users to implement various community fixes, while advertising "100% perfect compatibility" in their Partnership Video, which they know is false.

If this is a bug from FS9 and a company is selling $250+ peripherals and touting "100% compatibility" then they should be making themselves compatible with the sim platform.

So what line of business are you in?

One where I meet customer requirements and don't promise "100% compatibility" and then deliver a product that requires customers to hunt down work-arounds involving 1-2 pieces of external software while pointing fingers at someone else.

The mouse has two separate functions.  Buttons and wheel.  The yoke, and the predecessor equivalent device, the Saitek Multipanel, have one.  A single tuning knob.  I know, I have both. Honeycomb, designing a product before and then somewhat parallel to Asobo, could not have predicted this given the tight guarding and limited SDK from Asobo. So what do you want?  Some form of A-B switch to change from 10° to 1°?  What have you requested of Asobo in this regard?  It could be done in the software from them.

I am totally enjoying my Alpha and Bravo.  Proof statement:

My hardware is/has been on various spacecraft and has always done its job correctly per the  engineering requirements.  Unfortunately you won't find many customer reviews since the customer has been organizations, not individuals.  Total value of the spacecraft I've been responsible engineer for some part of is in excess of $3.6 billion (although I was only a small part of the large teams that make such things possible).

Honeycomb is not providing adequate support for their customers, plain and simple.  They sell the product, they claim it's "100% compatible" with MSFS, they should provide whatever software fix is needed with the product.

It's too bad we don't have a 2nd company making hardware of similar physical quality to act as competition in this respect and make them provide a software fix.
