UK2000 stops X-Plane development, sees MSFS as the future

Featured Replies

There were not that many good freeware for P3D. But MSFS has energized developers and some of them are amazing, A good or even better than many paywares.  So for someone to charge for an add on airport, they need to be Mega airports.

Today I received an email from Aerosoft announcing a new payware airport. A small airport in the Pacific North West. $15? Why would I need this? I have about 80 freeware addon airports downloaded already. I used to buy any and all addon airports when MSFS was released in the beginning cause I needed some good airports to fly from and into. Now with these 90 freeware and 55 or so Payware airports, I forget what airports I have even.

So I am now looking to freewares for small and regional airports (the cream of the crop have been steadily rising to the top...we can have a hall of famers already listed....  and big vendors to give us Mega airports. Or Airports in countries that have been neglected so far.. Like in South Asia, and Asia in general, Africa.

An with such a great simulator by default with a thriving freeware market I think people have grown tired of it.

That's a good thing right.... It's like fishing out rubbish on the Apple appstore 🙂

We need a traffic program, not more bloody airports, the simulator cones with airports, its tradlffic we need and some descent aeroplanes.....bloodyhell

We do....I do like a nice airport, I buy them, Orbx and all the rest .....but.....they're all empty  arent they??..  Just Flight do a good traffic program for XP11 .....thats what we need....thank you!

I purchased the 3 UK2000 airports for MSFS after seeing Filbert Flies reviews and I have little doubt I will pick up the other ones when released, they are pretty good, not the best and most detailed or using the latest possible tech I guess but for me that's kinda a plus point because on my 780 gfx card the FPS generally remains between 25-30 when taxiing so immersion wise they do the job.

To be honest where XPlane excels is a FM system that relies far less on lookup tables and pre determined formulae to emulate flight and hence it can do a far better job of flight models, especially for unusual aircraft designs or people wanting to explore the edges of the flight envelope.

Current MSFS can not even model Canard wings or biplanes properly (though at least it does model a pair of wings instead of a single wide one like FSX did).

At the moment the popular sim situation is:

-  VFR and realistic flight visuals ---  MSFS

- airline procedure IFR/AP and detailed cockpit simulation --- P3D

- anything flight model related  --- XPlane

All three may well have have a viable profitable place in the new expanded sim market.   Just like there has always been a place for combat sims and civilian sims. Or for that matter historical WWII combat sims and modern jet sims are traditionally different products.

It is possible eventually the one individual may buy and fly international airports and study level airliners for P3D, get little local airports, biplanes, bush planes and light twins to fly in MSFS and have a separate collection of Reno racers and aerobatic stuff they fly in XPlane.

And the best "open" scenery system for developers IMO, definitely not shown full system capabilities during v11 run. a few more features in the pipeline and it is on par with some very known "open world" engines. hopefully xp12.

The challenge for XP users is whether or not the 3PDs can afford to keep up with LR's development of the sim, given the prospect of a static (at best) user base. Indeed, can LR afford it? I have already run into this problem with an add-on developer who has not kept up with changes in the XP navdata standards. I can understand how challenging this can be; the users want free updates, but who's going to pay the contract developers?

Times change.
