January 21, 20215 yr So in Australia HP has the G2 at $AUS1099 and the G1 at $AUS599 . Both are available even cheaper elsewhere of course but the point is the price ratio of almost double for the G2 . Without a doubt the G2 is better .. but is it twice the price (more or less) better ? Or are there better options for MSFS altogether?
January 21, 20215 yr The G2 is not that much better, certainly not almost double the price. January 21, 20215 yr I'd agree, though I found the G1 too uncomfortable to wear - pressed on the ridge of my nose. Big nose folk watch out ! Sold my G1, G2 fits nice. Varjo Aero, 5090 FE, i9-12900K, 64GB Ram, RX Viper Rudder Pedals, AuthentiKit Controls + Fulcrum Yoke
January 21, 20215 yr I think g1 is now under $500 aus inc shipping new from amazon. g2 is $970 aud inc shipping in stock at Rosman. good amount of stock about at the moment Edited January 21, 20215 yr by dogmanbird
January 21, 20215 yr woah, 1k for the G2. The HP site sells it here for $599. Do they really inflate the price like that in other areas?

With the current exchange rate $US599 is about $AUS770 . Then you have to add a 10% GST/VAT tax which gets you to $AUS850. The cheapest on sale her is about $AUS980. So basically $AUS130 ( $US100) more expensive and note the freight from China to Australia versus the US will be similar. The extra $AUS130 ( $US100) or so is mainly your normal and expected price rorting by tech companies in smaller markets 😄 The disparate pricing is such a common thing that there was even a government enquiry into it here a few years back: https://www.minterellison.com/sitecore/content/MinterEllison/Website/articles/2017/07/27/04/06/the-australia-tax-and-the-report-into-it-pricing Edited January 22, 20215 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick

Returned my G1 and bought a Rift S not as good resolution but very comfortable and ideal for glasses wearers, also when set up well for me at least not a lot of difference. Mick
January 24, 20215 yr Now that rift-s and g1 are similar price, would the g1 be more tempting for sims if glasses didn’t need to be worn? I haven’t tried a g1. Edited January 24, 20215 yr by dogmanbird

In my option, if simulation is your main use for VR, the HP G1/G2 still has the highest resolution. This really helps reading gauges and LCD displays in the cockpit without having to lean in to read them. Having just upgraded to the G2 ($959 Canadian including taxes), I find it is a bit better then the G1. The new lenses do seem to make the sweet spot a bit bigger, better speakers, but I don't use them, and remove them of the headset. I prefer my stereo surround sound around my PC. So is it worth the cost of upgrading to the G2 from the G1? I don't think so. Its hard to put number on it, as it really depends on the user. I personally found the G1 to be very comfortable and the fixed PID of the G1 didn't bother me. So for me, it may be 5 to 7 percent better in perceived clarity, due to the new lenses. In retrospect, I should have put that $900 towards a 3090 Graphics card. Oh well, I am still very happy with my purchase. Got a good price for my G1, so that helped offset the cost.
