February 11, 20215 yr If I were to play multiplayer, and had a plane that wasn’t a stock plane, how it would it show up/display for other people? 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.

February 11, 20215 yr Author Ah, thank you. That’s better than a poke in the eye I guess 😂 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.
February 12, 20215 yr It depends on the settings of the other players and what aircraft and liveries they own: if they have enabled "use generic models in multiplayer" they only ever see generic models if they untick "use generic models in multiplayer" and own the aircraft you are flying they will see the correct aircraft 3D model if they untick "use generic models in multiplayer" and own the aircraft you are flying and also own the livery you are flying they will see the correct aircraft with the correct paint scheme ... so basically if you rock up in multiplayer with your new shiny "Harry Potter on Nimbus 2000 broomstick" with the optional "Gryffindor Quidditch team" livery, it will only show up as Harry Potter on a broom wearing robes in the Quidditch team colors for those people that have disabled "generic models" AND also have the same addon and livery for it as you do. otherwise you will appear as something like a Bonanza with a very wacky flight model. February 12, 20215 yr Author Thank you for that breakdown. Makes a lot of sense. Just supposing that, with all of the options ticked appropriately, if I had the plane that another player had, would the displaying of it have any impact on frames rates or performance versus a generic model? 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.

It will definitely have some effect. As to how much, that is going to depend on your hardware ,your settings, your net connection, how may other people are flying and other things like whether you are also streaming your flight out to Twitch or YouTube. This is most likely one of those things you just need to test. Join one of the popular livestreams like the ones AUSFlightSimmer or Pilot Emilie do regularly on YouTube (they both use US West Coast server) and while everyone is parked at an airport change your settings and see how much difference it makes. February 12, 20215 yr Author Thank you. I will have an experiment with one of the European servers as soon as I get the chance. I’m hoping to set up an ultralight group, hence wanting to see the correct aircraft displayed. Seeing a Bonanza doing 40 knots might be a bit jarring. 5950X, RTX3090, 32GB@3600, Samsung Evo NVME 1TB, Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswinds, Reverb G2.

February 12, 20215 yr The model matching is a bit cack to be honest, I flew a flight to Inverness last weekend and when I landed there was an A340 doing circuits. It was actually a Diamond Twin Star but it had been matched to the Asobo Generic Airliner for some reason... The funniest one is where people have bought an F15 or typhoon and are trying to showoff in a live stream. They do not seem to realise the rest of us are seeing a generic orange Bonanza zipping about at crazy speeds 😄 However if the OP and friends are flying ultralights and they all own the same ultralight it should work fine for them.

February 12, 20215 yr I was wondering about this, I assumed the case, but imo its a shame that other players can't see what you are flying if they don't have the aircraft themselves, and I'm not sure what the reasoning would be for that. If anything its free advertising for third parties surely. Even if a 2nd less detailed model was injected into the SIM - would certainly make our skies more interesting right now. If you both have installed the same aircraft and are both using default liveries it "should" show up but multiplayer is a bit finicky and unpredictable. Maybe post on the main MSFS forums about it.

Maybe post on the main MSFS forums about it. Its been my experience, at least with the DC-6...that if you all own the model and paint, it will show exactly what the others are flying. In the shot below, I had all 3 liveries in my sim, so I saw them all. The others saw the LAB paint in the foreground as the same paint they were flying (PAA saw me as PAA, Everts saw me as Everts), as I had just finished painting the LAB but had not released it yet. Had I released it and say the PAA pilot was flying it, I'd see him as LAB and he'd see me as LAB as well. 🙂 Some coordination is needed between the pilots beforehand if you want to see exactly what they are flying. If its just a repaint and you all have the model, you'd all just need to have the repaint as well. If you or others dont have a model, then MSFS will try to model match I "think"...unless it just throws that bonanza in the sim, I've seen that one alot when in flight and not grouped.
