What does "set gear" even do?  Toggle, gear up, and gear down are all self explanatory... what else can be done to landing gear that necessitates a "set gear" button assignment?

Reader  corrected me on Gear UP and Gear Down being available 🙂

(I was thinking of no ParkBrake ON nor ParkBrake OFF which is annoying).

Having SET and CYCLE are handy because there are two kinds of switches. Keyboard switches that go off (cycles the DX state to OFF) when you release them. And some toggle switches (not all of them) remain where you put it and don't move back when you release it (and the DX state goes OFF or stays ON depending on which type it is).  It's like you pushed a keyboard key and then held it down continuously versus you released it instead.

DX state 0 = off

DX state 1= on

I have a (wonderful) Desktop Aviator panel (purchased here in the market forum) that has genuine toggle switches. And there is one Yoke that people here write about (I don't have one) that apparently also has the same type switches that stay on when released. I use a SET command for parking brake on my Warthog throttle (Warthog throttle also has some toggle switches that are spring loaded too. Both kinds.

One good way to learn what the SETs do versus CYCLEs is to assign a Set Gear command to a keyboard key and a Cycle Gear command to a different key. Then when flying, hold down a key and don't release it, wait awhile then release it. And watch when and how the gear reacts.

I want a re-poll!   I had some CTD's today - I found out they are related to the latest Bing data disaster!

I was just thinking about it in terms of keyboard keys or buttons, which is why is did not make sense to me.  I had never considered physical switches, but in that context it's perfectly logical.

I went from August to mid-January, flying about 10-hours a week, with not a single CTD.  I experienced several in late January and now can not fly for more than a hour without a CTD.

Just had one flying KSAN to KSBA with no scenery mods installed.  Mid flight cruising at FL22 in the TBM 930 over Los Angels Bay.

Which has occurred more times?

This is interesting.  I never crash my plane but the sim crashes randomly all the time.  It's allot better than before but it's still an issue.  Wish it was a non-issue on my end like others are reporting.
