MSFS Broken after Update

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Really hoping someone can help, so today I installed the new update, all three parts to it, the one in store, the one when opening game, and then the world update from within the game. All went swimmingly, no issues with the download, but now I can't load into a flight at all. I can get into the menu OK, but when loading a flight I just get a CTD with no error message. I followed all the instructions, I have never used rolling nor manual cache, I cleared out the community folder etc.

Completely stuck and hoping someone can help!

Thanks for any help,

A

Sorry to hear that.  It is a tough one to analyse, and doesn't seem to be a common issue, but various random problems people have been getting (bad frame rates etc.) are being cured by a reboot of the PC.  It seems it is always the best policy after some of these large updates.

Note that windows 10 changed a bit last year. A restart flushes out properly, whereas shutdown and boot up can still hold on to some old data believe it or not, depending on your sleep settings etc. So restart is the way to do it.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Did you delete your cached scenery?

If not that'll cause a crash.

The texture bug with certain addon scenery (including marketplace scenery) is not fixed yet.

Do you still get a CTD if you go to a default airport that is not an addon ?

Thanks all, yeah I had cleared cache, well I didn't have any in the first place, and I removed the links to community folder.

I knocked my CPU clock down by 0.1 GHz and that has allowed me to load in. Quite strange, it was perfectly stable beforehand and a little odd why an update would cause that to be an issue! i'll investigate further in the morning, but thanks for all your input!

I had this problem, but I also had rolling cache. I deleted rolling cache, rebooted the computer, started MSFS re set rolling cache, went to flight setup screen and loaded a flight from KATl and all has been good since.

Don't know that this info helps but ......

perhaps a reboot is in order if you haven't done that yet.

I am back to square 1! After an update everything worked fine, then I went to have a dinner, came back, started MSFS and I am stuck on black screen right after it checks for updates! What the hell is going on with this sim? When it works its great, but I have been having non stop issues with it. I have brand new computer Ryzen 9 5900k with RTX3070 card, none of my other games have any issues, just this junk.. is there any cure for black screen issue? I am so very tired of this already. When I had my old PC, sim would work for coupe days after fresh install and then I would get stuck on blue bar! This is like never ending problems, how one can even run this sim? Any help!

Thank you!

Run a hardware test you may have a bad memory chip.

There are several good ones available on the WEB.

doubt this is suddenly the reason if the issue only came up after the recent update. maybe it was due to server/login issues which seem to be gone now. would be good if @abennett reported back his current status

It's all working fine for me now, I had to up my CPU voltage, and seems to have fixed it, it's possible my CPU OC wasn't quite as stable as I thought, (but I'd never had any other problems at all) and the somehow the update has increased the load on the CPU and it pushed it over the edge? Temps still OK and voltage not too high so not the end of the world really.

  • 2 months later...

Having the same issues as others have reported.  When I tried to load MSFS (following computer reboot to update), found there was a mandatory update in MSFS.  When I clicked on it, the Microsoft Store said there was an error.  So I tried to shut down the update to use MSFS without it.  Lost the icon completely.  Now I am reloading (for the 3rd time with many hours to go in this yet this goround) in the hope that I can use the program again sometime tomorrow.  Anyone with suggestions (in English, without acronyms please) would be appreciated.
