Oculus Quest 2 update will add 120Hz refresh rate

Oculus Quest 2 looks likely to be updated with a 120Hz refresh rate, according to comments made by the Vice President of Facebook Reality Labs. During a Q&A session on Instagram, Andrew 'Boz' Bosworth responded with a literal ‘thumbs up’ to a question about whether Quest 2 would see an update to 120Hz, and touched on a number of other topics relating to VR. The faster the refresh rate in a VR headset, the smoother the virtual world it creates, and so 120Hz marks a dramatic improvement on the 72Hz refresh rate the Quest 2 originally launched with (before being updated with support for 90Hz in November 2020).

Reality Is For People Who Can't Handle Simulation!

 

Its a lot of frames to pump out, but i guess if they can get ASW to up the 30 to 120, it could be good.

120hz will not mean anything with MSFS in VR

The problem with current VR is not refresh rates, but resolution.

the next gen VR headsets will for sure have higher res,

but the main problem with todays HMD and even future HMD's is the Vergence Accommodation Conflict.

It will mean smoother flight...a long as you’re getting around 240 FPS in flatscreen mode. You lads are not getting 240 atm in MSFS?? 😉

The problem in flightsim is one of performance. Something like the Reverb 2 has adequate resolution, but a sim like MSFS can not make use of this at a decent refresh rate.

Ideally, we want 60/90/120 Hz PLUS slightly better resolution PLUS wider field of view.

The Valve Index have a 80/90/120 and 144Hz resolution.

the last years i tested all this Hz with different Games /Apps, and the higher you go with the Hz the world around you just feels more closer to reality, and especially more stable as you move around.

Michael Abrash an Oculus Chief Scientist described this allready years ago and said an aprox 1000Hz display is needed to simulate the Reality very close.

1000 frames per second? Sir, this is Avsim. No flightsim user needs more than 20 fps, the human eye cannot detect more than this! 😉

Whilst the human eye is perfectly content with 12 FPS, I agree that the human stomach is not.
