February 22, 20215 yr I have Steam version of MSFS. I downloaded Tokyo enhanced Landmarks pack yesterday from the market Place. It didn't put it in the Community folder but into the 'Official' folder where all the Asobo stuff is. I also noticed that my Carenado WACO aircraft, also purchased in Market Place some weeks ago has also been installed into the Official folder. I thought Market place purchases were meant to go direct into the Community folder?
February 22, 20215 yr Market Place purchases FREE or Purchased go in the Content area of the sim, NOT the Community folder. The Community folder is for items FREE ( Only thing I have in there ) and I would assume 3rd party Payware items, but since I don't have any, not completely sure? But liveries that are freeeware, mods, like the A32NX, 3rd party Bush Trips, etc... go into the Community folder. Someone that has bought a 3rd party scenery or aircraft outside of the Market Place, can explain that process. I would think they go in the Community folder? BTW, you can also Uninstall things like the World Updates, USA, UK, and Japan if you are running out of room or just don't use them. And reinstall them if you want them later. Purchases from the Marketplace are located in the Official folder only, and the files are encrypted, or a way to say you cannot move them to the Community folder if you wish (I don't think it'll work and you'll miss the updates, etc.). I've never looked to see what the actual name of the folder is for Market Place content. Cheers, Ed It would seem that there's definitely some sort of encryption at play here as I have attempted to move LVFR's Barcelona purchased through the Market Place into the CF (so I could disable it if I didn't want the sim to load it) and it simply does not work in there.

Yeap, something like encryption, which is not probably the best technical term to describe them, but let's say something similar to that. I just checked the folder structure of the only one add-on that I have purchased from the Marketplace so far and found some differences in the file characteristics and format that makes me think something is definitively different. I tend to think this is done on purpose to protect the copyrights and avoid software piracy, protecting the devs work. February 22, 20215 yr I do wish that items purchased outside of the marketplace showed as purchased if purchased elsewhere. ORBX addons purchased through ORBX central come to mind. Anyone know if we can simply move these into the official folder? LouP

That sounds reasonable, but I don't see why it would be necessary when the same 3rd party addons could alternatively be purchased from say, Simmarket, and once downloaded, copied straight into the CF just like any piece of freeware. Regards

Regards You got a good point there. I have two different sim setups, one is a laptop, and sometimes I don’t use the original installer on the “second” machine, but copy the files and folders instead from the “first” Community folder and this always work. I've kinda "learned my lesson" buying on the Market Place and would never do it again. It was always my intention to buy 3rd party stuff outside of the sim, but Barcelona was given a healthy discount on the MP at Christmas, so I gave in to temptation...
February 22, 20215 yr At least in some cases if the developer chooses you can buy them from a 3rd party site or other 3rd party Market Place, or in the MSFS Market Place, and in some cases you have the choice. In other cases if they ONLY choose in the MSFS Market Place, or 3rd party website, you just have to make a decision. Apparently that is up to the developer?
