March 6, 20215 yr First off.....disclaimer..... This a huge step change in flight sims and I have enjoyed every minute of it since first released. It even runs acceptably well on my old i7 system with a 1050 video card ( yes it does stutter in photo realistic big cities ) However....I live on the SE coast of Texas where we have lots of palm trees... If Asobo can differentiate between grass, bushes, and trees. Is it not possible to create palm trees ?? Make them all the same size and height.... don't care. But a palm tree is radically different in appearance from most other trees. And if photogammetry is activated, you get a rectangular block where the tree should be.....Now here's the crazy thing.....the shadow of the rectangular block is in the shape of a PALM TREE ! So....surely some of the dev / mod folk who have so beautifully modded the CJ4 and the A320 might attack this tree thingy ?? I know its a little thing....but I suspect that our friends in Florida and southern California might enjoy the palm trees as well...
March 6, 20215 yr Try turning off photogrammetry, which should get rid of the melted trees and place autogen trees instead, hopefully of the right type. Also, you could try it with this free tree pack. https://www.flightsimulator.blog/2021/02/18/trees-draw-distance-fix/ Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio. March 6, 20215 yr I've also noticed flying west of Miami that occasionally you run across a single palm tree that is bright yellow compared to the other trees and about 5X the height of the surrounding trees. I'm assuming a bug of some sort....
March 6, 20215 yr Author Thanks Bobcat....you're right....turning off the photogrammetry does get rid of the "melted" trees. However it replaces them with the same style of autogen trees. That;s part of my whine. It would seem that if Autogen can differentiate between trucks and cars, it should also see the very stark difference between palm and other trees.
March 6, 20215 yr Author That's very interesting, bszuch....I don't think I've seen anything like that down here, but I'll keep an eye peeled.....
March 6, 20215 yr Back in October 2020 I actually submitted a bug report about the lack of palm trees in the Miami area and in Florida in general. Guess they still haven't resolved this issue. The Azure AI rendering engine should recognize a palm tree in the imagery and then place the palm tree object there. I guess the AI part of the engine isn't learning to do that for some reason. Perhaps because no one at Asobo has told it "this is a palm tree" so that it learns and gets better and better at recognizing one. March 6, 20215 yr Yup. Don't get me started on this. I've been whining about this from the first day of MSFS release. I get triggered every time. 🙂 Flying in Tropical countries like Sri Lanka and South west India and the Islands in Indian Ocean is not realistic. If you search for Kerala, you would see oceans and oceans of Coconut trees ..and flying into Trivandrum or Cochin and Managalore or Goa, or Maldives or Asati Islands you don't see a single Coconut tree. Even FSX had a few clumps of coconut trees single and 4sie6sie clumps of them imagine flying into the airport in misty, foggy IMC condition. 🙂 Edited March 6, 20215 yr by Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 6, 20215 yr Commercial Member This is why I started rebuilding the whole ecosystem. Most of the areas mentioned above is fixed and I am constantly making changes since there are over 800 regions. March 7, 20215 yr There's was a utility, that I used about 6months ago, that lets you change the species composition and min/max heights of trees for each global "biome". If you're just flying around your local area you might be able to tweak the global biomes in your area to have the right species mix/height of trees. I remember I used it to get rid of the massive default trees that MSFS seems to favour and at last Sydney looked it was situated in Australia and not the Amazon. It worked great! Sorry I can't remember what it's called, but I think I found the link to it here on Avsim somewhere. Matthew S
