April 25, 20215 yr I'm stoked because I'm able to fly this wonderment with great performance, visuals, after some recent troubles. Right now there is only one consistent source of brief stutter and that is when the whirling dirvish does its thing in the lower right corner of the display. This varies hugely for me--sometimes every 10 seconds for a while, and other times more than a minute between activations of it. I don't know what it's truly indicating, but it does create a brief stutter everytime so if there is a way to minimize it w/o paying a significant cost in some other aspect it would be desireable. This reminds me of the kind of hiccough one can get when there is a competing process on the main thread. In P3D for example, using Process Lasso w/ an affinity mask I can keep processes more or less off of the main thread and reduce microstutters. So, anyone out there discovered a way to reduce freq of this occuring or what have you? Recently I signed out of MSFS itself, then signed back in, and voila ALL of those disappeared for the next flight or two, then they came back, FWIW. Anyone know truly what it indicates? April 25, 20215 yr It spins when it's saving data to disk. Any data. It's nothing to do with downloading or loading data. No idea why it's there or how to stop it. Edited April 25, 20215 yr by jarmstro
April 25, 20215 yr Author Interesting. Did you use something like Resource Monitor to assess and conclude this? I wonder if there is a process one can isolate in Task Manager that then could be offloaded to non-mainthread cores? This helped immensely in P3D for me but w/ apps like ASN4 and other. April 25, 20215 yr Try turning off multiplayer. The official MS "Known Issues" page now recommends turning it off to avoid stutters caused by other players flying aircraft or liveries you don't have installed. April 25, 20215 yr It drives me crazy and can spoil videos and screenshots. There is absolutely no need for it. I think I started a thread on the official forums a long while ago to vote for it to be removed, but nobody voted for it. I am not surprised really as there are so many other things to vote for that need fixing. Maybe we can get it removed by 2023. I had a quick look myself to see if it could be removed, but unlike the handlebar menu at the top of the screen, and the gauges in the outside view, I can't find the UI code to adjust/delete it. It must be in the core program. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I have to think removing the graphic itself wouldn't make a difference except you wouldn't see it, but I'm most interesting in removing the brief stutter associate with its display. With all of the small things that have been fixed I have to think this too will eventually be resolved. April 25, 20215 yr Don't know if this will help but if it's spinning alot, like every 5 seconds or so open developer mode and click on all three indicators (messages, errors, etc) then close developer mode and it'll at least go back to the normal spin cycle. I absolutely hate the thing btw. Think they should do away with it.

I'm not sure when this began for me, but certainly since initial release and for several months after I hardly ever saw this, and I had MP enabled at that time. Now it's a regular occurance and has been despite disabling MP. I'm going to user Resource Monitor to try to see which process(s) are associated w/ disc-write operations, but I have to think it's going to be hard to ascertain as it may be subsumed under more generic processes. April 25, 20215 yr I don't have any caches set or multiplayer, and yet I get the spinning circle a lot. I thought it was when downloading scenery. It's another one of those where we just don't know. April 25, 20215 yr It's always been there for me though I rarely ever get any stutters with it - I thought it indicated when the sim was importing new online data for the area I was flying? It doesn't cycle often (I rarely use live traffic and never use multiplayer). For instance, whenever I activate live weather after arriving at the departure airport, it will give a quick spin - I actually appreciate it as it indicates to me that it worked and the weather is updating. It will spin a few time while flying, which indicates (I thought) updates to scenery details on my path, weather changes, etc. I can't say that it's ever indicated a performance issue - I suppose if it ever cycled during a screen shot I would just crop it out. It can't be downloading scenery because it does it when you have all online scenery, traffic, weather, and multi player shut OFF in Data. I'm pretty sure its just a 'saving data' indicator and I get no pauses or stutters associated with it. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life.
