Honestly the miner's should fill in all the unsightly holes they dig.

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I really wouldn't be surprised if terrain mesh issues weren't the root cause of many of the performance degradation issues.
