SteamVR or OpenXR: Which one you are using?

Featured Replies

I am curious which renderer do you prefer and why? (i.e. OpenXR, SteamVR)

  • Sim: MSFS2020
  • Headset: HP Reverb G2
  • Renderer: SteamVR
  • Why: I get benefit from steamvr overlay functionality. (Like using Ivao Altitude in the cockpit)

using mainly reverb g2 - i get noticeably better fps with msfs using wmr openxr, than i do with steam openxr. I'm having good results with openxr dev tools motion reprojection. Though I wish wmr version had a world scale option

Oculus Rift S here, no need for SteamVR nor OpenXR (and a lot less hassle to get everything going).

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base & hegykc MFG Crosswind modded pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S for VR

doesn't oculuis have it's own version of openxr for the rift s as part of an update back in late 2020, as it does for the quests 1 and 2?  you might be running it but just not aware of it?

SteamVR with my Reverb G1 (WMR), mainly for the Overlays as WMR is rubbish in this area.

Pico Neo3 Link VR - Windows 11 64bit, Gigabyte Z590 Aorus Elite Mobo, i7-10700KF CPU, Gigabyte RX 9070 XT OC 16gb (AMD GPU), 32gig Corsair 3600mhz RAM, SSD x2 + M.2 SSD 1tb x1

Saitek X45 HOTAS - Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals - Logitech Flight Yoke - Homemade 3 Button & 8-directional Joystick Box, SNES Controller (used as a Button Box - Additional USB Numpad (used as a Button Box)

Using G2 with wmr openxr.  How do I switch to steam VR to check it out ?  I have it installed and I'm a little bored waiting for the July 27 update
