Turns out photogrammetry doesn't handle gypsum sand well...

White Sands National Monument is a large, very bright white-sand desert. Decided to check it out in the sim. Easiest way is to take off from KHMN and turn west. It's literally right there.

The AI seems to have interpreted bright white dune faces as buildings, so there are all these weird 1 story office parks with bizarre shapes throughout the desert. Interesting. Wonder if that'll get tweaked at some point.

Yes I have seen other 1-storey buildings in place of landmarks / landscape features in other areas.

Hopefully they can hunt them down over time (maybe with the help of simmers reporting them) and override the AI placement of the buildings in these areas.
It does a pretty good job though overall.

PS.  I am not 100% sure, but I think this is just AI placing of trees and buildings going by the satellite tile colours, rather than the photogrammetry.
I think the photogrammetry is just for the sides of buildings (Skyscrapers etc.), as I have photogrammetry off for performance reasons and I still see this issue.
I am not sure of the proper name for what it is doing, but it is just AI placement of buildings from judging the shading on the landscape tiles.
I have seen it interpret large shadows as buildings sometimes - I think the large assembly building at Cape Canaveral suffered from this until it was corrected.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Like bobcat said above, that's not Photogrammetry, that's the AI scanning the saterllite/aerial imagery and guessing things out.

If you have the time, report it, so they can acknowledge the issue, fix it and teach the AI to better identify things like that.

The majestic forest-lakes of upper Quebec are brilliant, too.

Side note, the elevation map is detailed enough to model the sand dunes(?)

Hm, what lake is that? I wonder if it's missing on OSM, which we do know they did use for some map data,

That was my assumption, as well.

I'm honestly not sure where it was, a buddy sent it to me a while back, and it seemed worth sharing in this thread.  I'm curious myself, now, let me see if I can find out.

I noticed that too and was impressed. Not even sure how that's done, since the dunes are constantly shifting so it's not like there are topo maps of them. Maybe it was a 1-time satellite topo pass? It's a little off of reality (in real life, they're often around 60 feet tall, so the ones in the sim seem a bit short) but still.

Other than the weird buildings, the biggest thing wrong there is that the real place isn't tan. It's an almost blinding white that looks more like snow. Gets obnoxious after awhile even if you're wearing sunglasses.

I'm guessing image correction was applied so you could actually see the ground without it being washed out, or maybe something to do with the atmospheric filtering.

It shouldn't be to hard to exclude those with the SDK.

More generally there are too many multi-storey buildings everywhere, it looks somewhat strange to find some in small cities in the boonies.

Is Blackshark.ai still working on the sim to fine tune its AI ? Not sure, I have not seen any evolution.

Report it to zendesk. I did so on something in the UK a while back and it was gone the next update.

I've seen this a lot as well.  Buildings in the middle of race tracks and open spaces seems to be common.  It's almost like the sim thinks there is too much open space so it just throws some building in...  The infield of Sebring, Daytona, Watkins Glen all seem to have entire neighborhoods in them...

Have a Wonderful Day
