And, btw. I know 1st fltsimguy for so long that I don't find it appropriate to call him a troll. Even more, shouldn't we be glad someone entering the MSFS community, and give him a friendly hand?

Agreed... and he has now found the folders (by enabling viewing of hidden folders) 😉

If everyone who asks a question on a forum about a new system they are unfamiliar with is considered a troll, we may as well not bother and close the whole thing down...

You'd be surprised how many XP fan boys come in here and ask or complain about ridiculous things. I can't see how playing the sim, shutting your pc down for a day and the sim is gone when you turn the pc back on. I flew 2 days ago and yesterday I turn my pc on and the sim was still installed and I did another flight.

This has to be a troll post. The sim doesnt just disappear after a day of flying and shutting the computer down.

Looks like I'm late to the party of trash talk.

I have another life, I'm very busy I don't sit at my PC all day.  Get over yourself please.

I have waited a long time to get into MSFS.  I did so because I could not get WIN10 installed (updated) on my PC a long story.  I have recently through a long and frustrating effort and now established a DUAL BOOT PC  with Win10 and Win7 working. And now am giving MSFS a go.

I don't use Win10 let along hadn't ever used the MS store front and the kinda weird way to use this program.

I had an issue with understanding how this sim was installed and how to use it and there is no bloody manual and the video tutorials I viewed did not prepare me for what I encountered.

I soon thought of "hidden files". In my Win7 I have it set so there are not hidden files, never thought of this as an issue but the MS folder and install disappeared because I needed to turn on that switch; one learns something new every day.

I had no concept of how one had to be "logged" on to "launch" the sim.

Things may not be what they seem, that is life.  I am an unbelievably seasoned flight sim enthusiast and quite frankly don't think you could match my flightsim experience from Sub Logic days in the 1980s till now.

Where the heck else does someone go for help, AVSIM. Been doing so since our fearless Tom initiated this website.

Thank you to the folks here who provide helpful comments.

AND, read the above post it may enlighten you.  Not every one is a troll, some folks just actually do come here to learn and share.  Been doing so since AVSIMS inception thank you very much.

And oh yes, I have two sims now after dropping FSX, P3D...to me the only two worth my time are MSFS and XP for their different reasons.

Now the crucial question: Did you get it to run?

Kind regards, Michael

Did they ever get it working?

And thanks for asking. YES thanks.  And had some very good help from my friend and neighbour @Bert Pieke.  Invaluable, better than a manual.😀

After my frustrating experience and given I use a dual boot PC system its not a quick fix to switch between the two Win10 and Win7, load-up times and such.  I have a busy life doing the stuff I love and hadn't got back to this issue until much later.

I now know the sim  architecture and how this sim works.  Still have lots to learn though.

Again, much thanks for your initial help, please see the above two posts. Who would have thought that one little switch..hidden files...would have been the first issue, disappearing files.

And, then there was my total  misunderstanding and inexperience with MS storefront and how to launch this sim....opening an XBox account, Xbox written all over the place is confusing in my view.  Finding three little dots.  Not having a desktop icon initially to launch the sim from....these are very different from my PC world.

But all is good now and thanks.

I had the same problem and solved it by going in to the registry deleting the following directories and restarting the computer.

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\GamingRuntime

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\GamingOverlay

Make sure you back up the registry before you  make any changes. You ill need to create a new shortcut.

Thanks for some direct phone help from Bert I now have a desktop icon and its in my start menu and after unhiding hidden files I have my install folder for adding addons and links to addons. Thanks.

What happens if you open your start menu, then type 'Microsoft Flight Simulator'?

I also just learned this tip yesterday from Bert.  I had no idea how to use Win10, but im becoming proficient very fast.

I think this thing is a technological triumph and I’m constantly amazed by how well it runs on my ten year old cpu but the whole purchase, install and update process is truly Machiavellian.
