It rarely did in 5.1. I have moderate settings to reflect my 1080Ti. And running AIG Ai also incurs a hit so I’m sensible about settings. But just a few flights in 5.2 have convinced me more work is being demanded of the CPU and my GPU is definitely under used compared to 5.1. Look at my earlier report where changes in Autogen and Scenery Complexity hardly affected the demand on the GPU. Its only when the performance isn’t smooth I glance at the RTSS readout and notice CPU1 has hit 100%. Ray, can you answer without any benchmarks please? Has Prepar3D become more stuttering lower frame rates? Thanks.

I play some other flightsims on the same rig as well so why switching back and forth when you don't need to? Not so good for your monitor's hardware btw. Thanks. Edited June 14, 20214 yr by Dirk98

June 14, 20214 yr Same issue for me guys. I was in MSFS land for a while but decided to load up 5.2 just to see what progress is being made. Liked what I saw visually but then noticed the CPU usage and also saw CPU throttling due to temps - which never happened in MSFS even in Ultra settings. For traffic I use Ultimate Traffic Live 2 btw. Hoping LM takes a look. Ilya Ilya Eydis, PPL, ASEL

How I achieve 30fps is immaterial to the discussion about increased CPU and decreased GPU usage in 5.2. There are some 3090 owners who are seeing their cards use no more than 30% of what they’re capable of. LM have acknowledged there are issues with 5.2 but whether that includes this problem remains to be seen. Ray (Cheshire, England). With a hard frame limit then yes, main core usage can drop below 100%, but 95%+ would still be your sweet spot because then you're getting the best CPU performance for the FPS limit you've specified. When Unlimited, the sim is trying to render as many frames as it can regardless of settings, so it'll always be at 100% and it's the FPS that varies. For me, that has been a better trade-off because limiting frames has caused worse performance at given settings for me. Also, I have my CPUs overclocked, core parking disabled, and Windows set to not use SpeedStep, so the cores are always running at the overclock frequency. The shifting of frequencies up and down during turbo operations is, I believe, a cause of microstutters. Yes, all these settings are more or less a general consesus among flight simmers since some time. You could also mention some bios settings as Hyperthreading On/Off and AVX ratio offset. I always use HP On with a special AM specific to my system, and my water-cooling allows me not to use AVX offsets (at 5.2Hz OC). One thing that I've noticed: how do you specifically disable core parking? Regedit? Thanks.

Was it not for you I wouldn't even remember about that 60/30.. Quote Ah right. So why not run it at native 30Hz? Is it because of the mouse movement? I've got used to that.

Perhaps that is significant if you're running at 60Hz or forcing 30Hz via other software. @andy1252, interesting that you have a Ryzen. Maybe that's a factor. Most here are using Intel. I have two computers with P3d v5.2, and one of those is using a Ryzen processor, which is pretty much maxing out my CPU usage. I forgot to check the CPU usage for the PC using the Intel processor, but I will double check the CPU load on that one later. Anyway, assuming most of you are using an Intel processor, it appears there is no difference in CPU load using either Intel or Ryzen.
