June 13, 20214 yr Moderator Has anyone noticed that 5.2 appears to be hitting CPU1 harder than 5.1 did? I monitor it via RTSS and it’s frequently hitting 100% even when airborne at altitude. That was at FL290 SE of London enroute to Brussels in the PMDG738. I’m struggling to work out what’s demanding so much CPU power. The GPU was no higher than mid 30s with clear skies. I do run AIG Ai but use FSUIPC to limit aircraft to maintain 30fps. Same settings as much as I can remember as 5.1. Ray (Cheshire, England). June 13, 20214 yr I haven't noticed that yet, but all that shows is that the sim is not GPU-limited when that happens. Having both CPU and GPU usage below 100% just encourages developers to create more demanding code. 😉
June 13, 20214 yr I did want to add that a few AIG users have reported degraded frame rates with 5.2. AI Traffic is CPU intensive.

I saw that post but have deleted the contents of the associated shader folders. More testing needed to try to isolate the issue. With clear skies the GPU had a quiet flight. Ray (Cheshire, England). June 13, 20214 yr I've noticed the same behaviour - I even put all the sliders to the left mid-flight (just circling Aerosoft EGLL in the NGXu) and all CPU cores were at 100% - no AI loaded at all and FPS locked at 30 externally. I also tried locking internally, but same behaviour noticed. Much higher CPU but no added performance so not sure what is going on.

June 13, 20214 yr Author Moderator Thanks chaps for confirming my suspicions. I have my monitor set to 30Hz with unlimited set in P3D and VSync plus Triple Buffering enabled. It probably needs individual sliders changing to find which is responsible. I’ll start by disabling AIG and take it from there. With the GPU having so little to do it’s almost like more work has been transferred back to the CPU which seems nonsensical given how well balanced v5 has been. Ray (Cheshire, England). There’s a guide in AvSim for what settings impact on each so I’ll have a look at that. It needs updating really as it was for v3. A lot has changed since. Ray (Cheshire, England). June 13, 20214 yr FWIW, since the upgrade I’ve seen my CPU temps of my i9700k not o/c starting to hit T Junction temps will all cores peaking out at 100c while averaging about 90c. Definitely not like before. Tonight I am pulling and reseating my fan / cooling but I must also say when flying MSFS 2020 my average core temps stay at about 70c and NEVER hit 100C. Is anyone else seeing significantly higher CPU temps? TIA, -btacon Edited June 13, 20214 yr by btacon spelling
June 13, 20214 yr Commercial Member I’d be interested if there’s more AVX usage in the new build. Do you have an AVX offset enabled in the BIOS? cheers Luke Kolin I make simFDR, the most advanced flight data recorder for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane.

June 13, 20214 yr Could it be that making less use of VRAM resulted in more use of the main thread core ? … My VRAM usage is about 2/3 of what it was with v5.1 and I wondered how they pulled that off. That is my suspicion. They moved more work load back to the CPU to help the VRAM overload so many experienced. Vic green
