BN2 Islander - buy on Marketplace or at BlackBox?

Featured Replies

I have previously bought all my airplanes and scenery on the Marketplace. I am looking at buying the BN2 Islander and see that it is cheaper on the Marketplace (US$24.99) vs at BlackBox (€24.99), but there is no version history on the Marketplace as there is on BlackBox. Has the Islander been updated on the Marketplace? How long do updates take to post?

I know I am talking about a specific airplane here, but in general, is there a good reason to buy on the Marketplace vs vendors' home pages?

Quicker updates are the only reason to buy direct from Blackbox I would say. But as far as I know it hasn't been updated since it went on sale in the marketplace?

Your choice of course. But I only buy from Market Place and when I bought my new SSD and and reinstalled MSFS cause it was on a slower HDD, all I had to do was download MSFS and then of course reinstall all the items that were all in one place, such as World Updates ( which btw you don't have to install if yo never fly in certain places, or can later when you do ), etc... I only own a few aircraft and NO scenery and probably never will. Sounds to me like you are like me and a Market Place person for that reason.

Have fun no matter where you get it!

The BN2 has indeed been updated since release (it's now on v1. 1) with plans afoot for a further update later in the year I believe.

I would always buy direct from the developer as it means updates come much quicker and they get a larger slice of the income from the sale for their hard work.

I never buy airplanes on Market Place because files are encrypted. That means it can be very hard or impossible to obtain more specific information about the model (such as capacity of individual tanks or the maximum weight at specific load stations), to adjust the configuration (e.g., to make the airplane work with FSEconomy) or to create liveries.

The marketplace version has some sort of CTD bug, as do some other aircraft.

The developer has taken to sending marketplace buyers the non marketplace version on its official forum thread as there's no sign of a cure yet.

It has never occurred to me to buy via the marketplace.

Eh, just wait for the Aerosoft twotter instead. Makes the BB BN2 look like an amateur effort at best.

Hmm, I never thought there would be issues like this with the Marketplace. Thanks for all the info!

What about Asobo aircraft?

The only thing that bothers me about buying the Islander from the publisher is that it is $5 more there than on the Marketplace. That seems bizarre. Do other studios charge less on the Marketplace for their products?

Yeah, I am ready to spend whatever it takes to get that plane! Do we know when it is coming out? July or August?

No firm date on that yet but it seems it's on schedule, whatever that's supposed to mean. If I were to guess, I would say they're looking to release it along with the xbox release on 27th July (if they've made an xbox version that is). Price is going to be between €25 - €30 so quite reasonable too.

I bought the Four seasons on Market Place. Big mistake. You only get a part of the program. If you buy it at Sim Market it contains multiple folders for different seasons. No more market place for me.

If you refer to those included with the various MSFS versions: all airplanes seems to work fine. Airplanes included in the standard version are not encrypted, but Deluxe and Premium aircraft are encrypted.

I bought on Blackbox and am disappointed with their help. Haven't received  a reply in two days.
